A bit sad, but so true. I for one love to watch Özil, but all these amazing "passes completed" and "assists"-stats is nothing to actually scoring goals. It feels a bit like grasping for straws due to lack of a descent goalscorer like Bergkamp. With that said, you can't underestimate Özil's skill and contributions, of course.
Özil is still a fantastic player on his own right, and we need more players of his calibre at the club. Who knows, we might even sign a player that gets more out of him.

I didn't even mean it as a put-down to old Mesut. It's kind of the way it is, and that's mostly because a lot of people have made it that way. I couldn't wait for the talk of stat records to just go away. I remember a time when nobody cared, and you just marvelled at what you saw with your eyes during a game. Moments that took your breath away. Different strokes for different folks I suppose!
I thought it was just me who has this take on today's football..

I remember in the Highbury days and Cesc era. I had never heard of the CHANCES CREATED stat, I swear, the first time I heard about it was when Barcelona first tapped up Cesc, he started sulking. All these amazing different stats about him were brought to light in order to show why Barcelona wanted him. His ego got even bigger. The papers started comparing Cescs chances created at Arsenal to the likes of Messi, Iniesta, Xavi, Özil, Ronaldo etc, and it showed that he had the highest or near highest Chances created stats in Europe for the past 5 seasons. But until then I did not even know some of these stats existed / mattered. lol

The only stats that we ever talked about back then were; the Possession stats, Goals scored stats, defensive stats (clean sheets) even the Assist stats was never that talked about. But now even CB stats are scrutinized (how many headers, how many sliding tackles, how many interceptions, how many last ditch tackles)... I think it's due to the advancing technology that every little detail is scrutinized (easily accessible computers, Smart phones (social media), TV etc..

Not even close for me. Bergkamp's ability was a thing of beauty. He used to split defences and put players clean through on goal. Add to that his ridiculous skillset and the sort goals most players don't even score in training, and it's a no contest.
I think the Özil vs Cesc comparison is more fair...

Bergkamp is on his own planet..

Why are Jury (don't know why I wrote Furious) & co so concerned about us admiring/overrating mesut so much they gave to act like thought police? Maybe concentrate on the ramsey thread where there's a lot more cause! No point comparing bergkamp & Özil til mesut's stint here is done (which I hope is yrs off). People forget how bergkamp struggled here early on and even refused to take penalties later on after the united miss. They're all just human... but those 2 in particular, those who make football poetic, are special ones to watch. PS really think the Özil/silva comparison is more like for like too.

I'm surprised and a bit worried by the fact that he has not tweeted about game last night, seeing as how he is in the US himself

not like him at all

In a way, I'd be more worried if he did! Not that it could mean anything either way.

I don't see any of that. That's hyberbole. All I see is a civil discussion, before some bloke gets all bent out of shape and decides to insult people.

As if a ""civil discussion"" is by default an intelligent or enlightening one. To be fair to you, you probably don't even believe half the dross you flood this thread with. There's no harm in not liking a player, but we're talking about something different here.

The mistake you made is trying to make a career on this forum with your Özil hostility, so when your many, many thousands of words were proven wrong, you take any sort of harmless post celebrating Özil as an attack on yourself. And then the tedious chain of lunacy begin - Özil only passes sideways, you can't count his assists because they aren't real assists, sell him for Eriksen, "Henry used to take on ten men by himself, cure cancer and then create a tap-in", he "spams" the opponent's box with passes so of course he'll get (fake) assists... and prob a whole load of other barrel scraping, logic twisting bunk I've missed.

But now I've fallen into the trap of making this thread about you again which is probably what you want. Sigh!

So that's another ton of hyperbole, a dash of hubris, analysis of me as a poster and other such bollocks then... Why are you so incredibly precious? It's football ffs. I'm just a random guy talking about a footballer, and this is what it does to you? Do you see me getting all anal when you say you want Ramsey fired into the sun? They're both Arsenal players...

Why so mad? Doctor said you have to ease up on the viagra or something? You need to remain calm. Everyone else seems to be managing their emotions in here.
