Yeah, but that right there is the difference. Keepers should not be taking the same risks with the ball as midfielders.

It certainly isn't easy when they are asked to play with their feet so much but the error yesterday was pretty much unforced and seemed to be due to being overconfident. He seemed to be trying to dink the ball to Partey, who would have been under immediate pressure anyway.
He certainly had an easier option with Gabriel to his left. Richarlison was closing him down quickly on his right and Romero ahead of him and he thought he could play it between them and he took his eye off the ball. A few years ago keepers would just thump the ball up field to relieve the pressure but today they have to pass it out or they’ll be out of job. I think managers have got to accept there’ll be the occasional mistake if they ask them to play that way.

I'd really hope that in that situation, up 3-0 away in a derby match and comfortably cruising against opponents who seemed to have mostly given up, the manager would forgive the keeper just smashing it upfield. If not, that's a manager problem imo.

In these kind of situations find it better to look at how they respond. Players still trusted him with the ball and continued to claim crosses.

Sure grill him for the mistake, but you’re fooling yourself if you think other keepers are immune to these errors.

Alisson cost Liverpool two games this year.

1 against City that led to a goal and ended up in a draw.

Then the one with him and VVD against us that changed the momentum of the game and they lost.

It happens.
