Doping In Football

Came across this article about doping in Football and wondered what peoples thoughts were on the subject and if they had run in to similar articles on the topic.

In 2006, Spanish investigators uncovered a wide doping network around doctor Eufemiano Fuentes. Most big name cyclists from around the world were implicated and subsequently banned. Then something strange happened. As soon as reports surfaced that footballers too, were on Fuentes’ client lists, no further action was taken.

Here's a quote from Wenger on players he has signed:

"We have had some players come to us at Arsenal from other clubs abroad and their red blood cell count has been abnormally high," Wenger told the Independent. "That kind of thing makes you wonder.

I'm pretty sure there's another thread on this.

Joey Barton tweeted a while back that he's had to do a random urine test once in his career and nothing else. With that in mind I'm sure doctor's can find a way of doping players while knowing that the risk of getting caught low. EPO would be the main PED you'd think.

There's already a thread about this with the same article talked about to death.

Unless you're involved in European football or large tournaments, it's entirely possible to go entire seasons without being tested and even there the level of testing is jocular at best.

Seriously, a well managed doping regime could have someone on medication 3-5 days out of 7 and NEVER test positive  doubly so if they're only doing urine testing.

HGH, EPO, Testosterone aren't the easiest to detect in urine as they can clear very quickly. Doubly so if given in low doses.

At the "richer" clubs, this could easily be managed by the medical team without the players' knowledge. Agents like Mendes probably are involved in that sorta thing for their younger and less known players as well.

By saying Italian teams, he probably meant AC Milan as Neville tries to find an excuse for the utter humiliation that AC Milan spanked them over with in both rounds in 2007.

But there was also an interesting reply there.

League is very weak
There was a drugs scandal in Italy from mid 90’s to mid 2000’s so what Neville is saying isn’t wrong.

Also to be fair to Neville, he waited 20 years to speak about it, could’ve have said something earlier but then he gets accused for being a bad loser.

Arsenal Quotes

I think without doubt that Bergkamp is the most talented player to have played for Arsenal in the past 30 years, for as long as I can remember
