The reason we are seeing a different Özil again is not just 'effort'. Arteta is playing him in a way where he's getting on the ball a lot more and in areas where he can be a lot more influential. We didn't see this Özil last 18 months because of the way he was being utilised.

There's no doubt that is a factor, but life and sport is more complicated than it just being one factor. He is getting into great positions from the way we are set up yes.

But he is getting into situations where he is coming off as the winner (in 50-50's, or when he has his back to players) which he has struggled to do for ages now. Him putting in a stronger foot or being more determined on the ball is coming from him, he has had a mentality change from how he was playing before.

Point was, after a year and a half under constant scrutiny, it's good for him to have a manager that actually actively tries to get the best out of him.
Yes thats good, because Özil is the type of player who you have to accomodate for or he wont be good / give the right attitude.

So many top players have completely changed their ethos, workrate and playstyle for the system the current manager asks for. In a business like this where new managers are in all the time (and wont necessarily be perfect for everyone), its paramount to have that attitude.

But Özil is getting too old for me to worry about that anymore, I hope we get good use of him until he leaves at the end of his contract.

Didn't Özil have a bit of a revival early on under Emery though? For whatever reason it wan't sustained. Probably reasons we'll never know. One thing for sure is, they fell out. Rumors are that Edu, Raul, Vinay and Emery were all conspiring to move him on... Any word on the latest regarding said conspiracy?

Edu wasn't here last year, if that's what you're on about.

Made no sense to try and move him on. Especially after starting the season with him and him being by far our best creative asset.

People tend to get along, it's one of our biggest strengths as a species. The internet on the other hand seems to get the worst out of a lot of (anonymous) people.

Have you ever worked in a large office with lot of female staff? Get along?? Its like downtown Aleppo dude!

Folks can’t admit that Emery was at the root of Özil’s struggles because they’re too weak to say they were wrong

Emery was a fraud. If you backed him over Özil you were wrong

If you think Özil could have succeeded and lifted the team if he “cared” or wasn’t lazy you were wrong

If you said he was finished you were wrong

If you said he was useless and his role was extinct in the modern game you were wrong

If you said Ceballos or Willock or Torreira or Laca or Smith-Rowe would be better at #10 you were wrong

Özil like, many other players, were set up for failure by a fraud

All of the criticism disguised as praise is pathetic

Özil was and remains a unique world class talent with a passion for football and is a proven champion

Emery wasted that for 18 months

But you were wrong. Özil is far from finished

League is very weak
Wenger must have been as well then... because he was doing nothing for Wenger as well. Oh, we've erased that part? Sorry.
Cut it out mate, the best season of his career came for Wenger. Player of the year in 2016, second to Nacho in most distance covered in 2017, 3 FA Cups, top 4 etc.

In his first season we won the FA Cup, he assisted or scored in every other game that season, over 40 games. In 2015/16 he got 19 assists in the league ffs, one away from the PL record. Finished that season with 20 assists and 8 goals. The next season he had 25 goals and assists in 44 games. These are phenomenal numbers, bordering on record breaking.

Özil was great under Wenger.

One thing that will help Özil is is how quickly Torreira can pivot when he gets the ball at his feet and can pass the ball to Özil quickly in a more central position. Amy Lawrence mentioned it in a recent podcast. The more we can get the ball to him quickly in the transition the better.

He's done here. Super done. How many more clubs and managers do you want to see show zero interest in obtaining his services before you realise it's not us, it's him? Some of the arguments I've seen recently were worn out and then abandoned by his die hards about three years ago. We're just going round in circles now
Reading back a but and I just love this post, moments before he started in Arteta’s first game in charge. You know **** all mate.

Reading back, the **** about him not able to press lol thats out the window. Maybe it helps that we press with a plan, we had lots of players that loved to press but stopped because it was no use if we don’t do it as a team, with a tactical approach behind it. Its not blind running.

Pffff and people trying to undermine his charity work, why it is publicized so much. The charities he works for are bigger than himself and he has an enormous reach online. Ever stopped to think that him posting about it gives others a chance to contribute as well and thats why he does it? Some really sour people in here.
