It’s best for everyone if he goes, but we have a problem that is now becoming common in football, players will sit on their deals to become free agents.
Wenger called it as well.

Clubs are starting to demand silly money that just isn't sustainable (Zaha, Sancho etc) but players are also bending over clubs for wages that they can only justify by playing at a world class level year in year out (Özil, Bale, Sanchez). Its all ****ed.

Why not? Qatar is a modern country by all accounts. Some top footballers like Xavi in the tail end of their careers have gone there and not for massive wage increase either.
Xavi went there when everything in Europe was finished for him. Özil still has nearly 20M sitting for him in London.

She’s former miss Turkey, acts in turkish drama’s, much more used to the jetset lifestyle than Mesut. Just had a baby too. Leaving London for the desert? No way.

I know who she is! Anyway, he wont leave London, let alone her!

Look at this, I’m sure he could get another club anywhere for another year, but he’ll have to take a wage cut though, which he’s probably to willing to do.

No difference between this, Bale and Özil.

Xavi was earning 15m at Barca. He left Barca when he still had one year left in his contract because he knew he won't be a starter. the following season.

He took a pay cut to play in Qatar. It seems he currently earns 10m P.A currently.

Because he got a new big contract in Qatar which was going to be worth more in the long term.

Not dissimilar to Özil's current situation, is it?

Xavi infact took a paycut to go to Qatar. But the Qatari are promising to give Özil an increase in wage and it's most likely going to be a 2-3 year deal. If waits till contract expires, they'll offer him less money.

Xavi was 35 when he moved to Qatar. Özil is 31.

But their situation is/was more or less the same. Özil is a bum and is finished. Xavi was also finished. He was not a starter and so he had to leave with one year remain on his contract.

Besides, Özil is mentally retired. Özil is the equivalent of a 35 year old footballer now anyway

Xavi is a legend and seen by most as one of the best midfielders ever by the time he was "finished"...... he had nothing left to prove and his legacy was already secured. If you suggest to other fans that Özil is a Xavi level player they'll almost certainly laugh at you. Özil's legacy is not secured and I still find it hard to believe he will get a pay rise in the Middle East.

Özil is too comfortable in London. He won’t leave even if he’s offered more money elsewhere. I don’t normally encourage getting on a player’s back but for Özil I make an exception, he’s made it Özil vs Arsenal and he’s disrespected Arsenal legends like Keown. Not worthy of respect. Club wasn’t ruthless enough. Make him train with the reserves, make him uncomfortable.
