True, which is why the opposition parties need to do a better job
The problem is caused by dumbing down. Immigration for example is highly complex. Trump says build a wall. The man in the street says Trumps not frightened to do what needs doing. Clinton can't match the simplicity nor the stupidity of that.
Unfortunately in today's world these dog whistles are effective, not a coincidence that Trump called Mexicans rapists and Farage said the same for migrants in the UK
What about the millions of people, including myself, that voted for Brexit for reasons other than immigration?
The fact that Clinton is losing ground isn't because of simple minded or stupid people voting for Trump, its because his only opposition is one of the most evil, corrupt politicians of modern time.
Suggesting that people are dumb or stupid reinforces their decisions to vote for radical change. The elites on both sides of the spectrum have ignored the normal, working class population for so long, that they've finally decided to bite back.
This isn't about people being stupid, you misunderstand, it's about issues being too complex. Humans have developed a very complicated society. Whethrr it's global warming, the economy, religious/cultural divisions, immigration, health etc it takes real experts to get a handle on the concepts. The man in the street doesn't stand a chance. You ask him to vote on stuff and you might as well throw a dice.
Farage's dumbed down version of The EU was laughable, inaccurate and designed to pray on the vulnerable.
You ask people to vote on issues they don't understand wth politicians feeding them garbage . . . Truth doesn't stand a chance.
It's weird that the working class would side with a guy in Trump who's spent his entire professional life scamming ordinary people, or a former city banker like Farage. Neither of these guys cares about the common man, they never have.
Sadly the majority of a country's population isn't of high educational standard, and that's exactly what guys like Trump, or these far right movements in Europe are aiming for.
I don't think any politician is capable of simplifying matters to such a degree, that these people understand how flawed the approach and whole mindset of these parties are.
Trump isn't far right and neither is Farage.
@American_Gooner Farage has never been a banker. He was a metals trader.
Tell me what was inaccurate about what Farage has said about the EU and I'll tell you why he's correct. @Makingtrax
Trump isn't left nor middle eithe... someone who wants to build a wall to protect his country from refugees can be considered far right.
Building a wall isn't really any different than having barbed wire fences and armed patrols guarding borders, is it? Because that's exactly what the US has at the moment. I don't think somebody from Mexico illegally immigrating to the US, can be considered a refugee, either.
Of course it's different, because it sends a different message to build a wall across the whole border to Mexico as Trump stated. On one hand, building it is unbelievably expensive, and on the other you'd need to guard and protect the whole thing as well, which is even more expensive.
That "plan" is a complete farce.
@Neo-Harambist A good example is when he said, "Every single time British Ministers have objected to an EU directive, they have been over ruled.
This is designed to deceive the uninformed, because Britain hardly ever objects.
Lies are as good as facts these days, it's the sad reality we find ourselves in.
We voted for 91% of EU directives since 2009 and have objected to a tiny few. In fact Germany have had more objections over ruled than us.
He wanted people to think that Europe was governing us by taking this snippet out of context.
There were plenty of people at opposite ends of the spectrum who voted for brexit, lets not pretend the common denominator for vote stay was any different though.
