How was the top 4 exclusive? Between 2004 and 2013 we were bottom half of the table spenders. Arsène had no right to be there. And 2013 2018 we climbed to 5th most expensive squad.

The top 3 United, City and Chelsea were exclusive, they spent way more than any of other teams.

Sp**s weren't challengers for top 4. Teams like Wolves and Leciester were nowhere to be seen. A team just promoted fighting for it. No chance.

Now the premier league top 4-7 is more open than it ever has been.

You missed the point. Arsenal were somewhere to be seen, but had no right to be.

Wenger kept us 4th. But didnt build on that. Were was the progression? We stayed 4th and stagnated instead of kicking on.

We made signings like Xhaka, Mustafi, Lacazette who were meant to propel us up but no. We didnt.

Getting 4th and champions league football is to enable you to make better signings, to have more money and to attract better players. We didnt do that we took 4th and just thought relief let's hope we do the same next year. There was no ambition for more.

Klopp started with 4th. Didnt day oh this is ok this is comfortable. Soon got to 2nd and a champions league, next step 1st. Progression.

We didnt get that. We haven't been in a genuine title race for almost 20 years expect for the year against Leciester when all the other teams lost their way. A 5000/1 shot beat us. We couldn't even see it out.

So you can say he got us top 4 all you want. But he didnt build on that. He didnt progress us and he seen us fall out of that top 4 because of poor signings and poor management. Not being ruthless with some underperformers.

Just like if Arteta was to pull of a miracle and get us into the champions league next year.

Say next year we finish 4th and qualify again ok.
The year after if it is still 4th I wouldn't be happy because I would want to see us progress towards winning a title. The whole point of playing champions league football is to improve your team so that domestically and in europe you can compete.

We were never in that situation with Wenger the last 10 years. We were nothing more than a Sevilla/Valencia/Lyon who ultimately got put out first round of knockouts. Battered by anyone with half a team.

He signed people like Clichy, Sagna, Song, Kos, Ade, Giroud etc for nothing and got top 4.

How many titles did we win with those players?

You are crediting Wenger for signing players who were failures at Arsenal. Who didnt win us leagues. Who didnt win us champions leagues like your argument stands.

How many of those players turned out to be world class? 0 that's how many. How many of those players in the end left Arsenal and went on to win bigger things. Almost all of them. They didnt win things at Arsenal they won them elsewhere because we couldn't compete.

Those players were additions to other teams. Sometimes even squad players. But your talking there like they were Henry, Pires, Campbell and Cole.

Like getting promoted.

First season aim is 17th.
2nd season no relegation dog fight somewhere 14th-15th.
3rd season try build on that maybe even break into top 10-12.

Every club wants to progress and improve on the season before. Which isnt easy but thats the aim. However I feel under Wenger even he was just content with 4th. Didnt try anything new just continued the same.

No urgency or fighting desire to demand from the board. No look I will sign a new contract but i need x,y and z. And then when he did get money those years sure he failed to address the need to a holding midfielder. Signed 2 number 9s for 110m and not a decent defender or midfielder in sight. Xhaka and Mustafi cost 70m and both of them haven't improved the team.

We were making better signing when we have 40m budget or less before the 2013 season.

We made alot of bad signings we wasted 100m in 2016 that didn't improve us at all in 2014 season apart from Alexis the other signings were poverty that affect the finances more than failed to qualify to CL lack is good sales also affect that.

Since big spending started the only successful signings were Özil Alexis and Auba. In short we didn't buy smart.

If Kroenke have any of ambition he should inject club with his money until we back making good profit at least. That definitely won't be happening

1. 2013 the market was completely different

2. Özil has been a complete failure and is arguably one of the worst big profile signings we’ve probably ever made. He had nothing to do with our top 4 places or FA cup wins - the guys that made that happen have been long sold or left on a free. Yet, he’s still here on 300k per week and we have to play him to avoid fan/player unrest regardless of what he does or doesn’t do. Success isn’t the correct word.

3. Arsenal fans can’t handle big signings they expect Mo Salah in their debut season. Martinelli type signings is our thing, Kronke should just stay out of it.

Wenger in his latter half was washed up there’s no hiding from this.

When we snuck into top 4 it was not hotly contested like it is today. Just like how you say current Liverpool team > Arsenal invincibles - same thing applies to the race for top 4 in modern premier league.

Titles? Spending 5th or below? Wenger was a genius man, on the money spent.

The trouble is you don't understand how football works. Consider who won titles in Europe and watch this video and learn. And look where Sp**s and Liverpool figure, as well.

It isnt about spending big. It's about spending right. We didnt do the latter.

Look at the money we have spent on players that just were mediocre.

Mustafi 35m
Sokratis 17m
Kolasinac 100 odd k a week.
Xhaka 35m
Torreria 22m
Mikytyran swap big wages
Özil 42m plus 300k
Lacazette 52m

All failures

Defenders that cost less.

Maguire to Leicester.
Soyuncu
Joe Gomez
Robertson
Evans
Rudiger
Alderwierld
Vertonghen

Mf that cost less.

Maddison
Neves
Ndidi
Kante
Fernandinho
Eriksen when came to Sp**s

Forwards that cost less.

Salah
Firmino
Mane
Gabriel Jesus
Son
Vardy
Jimenez
Hazard to chelsea.

That's all of the top of my head. It isnt about who spends the most money. By that logic we should be above Leiecester and Sheffield United easily.

It's about spending it right and buying the best players within your budget. It may mean scouting more or taking a few gambles a year before your sure they can make they step up like the smaller teams do.

You cant tell me by swapping

Sokratis for Gomez
Kolasinac for Robertson
Xhaka for Neves
Torreria for Ndidi
Maddison/Grealish for Özil
Jesus for Laca

We wouldnt be better off. And have spent less.

Its not easy finding every top player before they peak but our signings have been terrible.

Nothing Wrong With Me
Wenger only dropped out of the top 4 with the full weight of the fans against him. That's what caused the slide.

There's never been a manager or team that's sustained top 4 football with the sort of campaign against them that our fans organised after the 15/16 season.

I don't want to take anything away from Wenger for the success he had here, he was a phenomenal manager for us, the PL and football in general. However, the last 2 years of his reign can't be blamed on the fans. Wenger and Gazidis made some bloody stupid signings and Wenger himself made some bloody stupid decisions on the pitch. There is no getting away from the fact that Wenger as a manger was in decline. No shame in that, it happens, but don't blame the fans for it!

All our teams from 06–14 would have easily got top 4 last season and this year.. It’s open because the big clubs have been **** and the race has been about being the least bad of the bunch.

And why have the big teams been ****? Because the so called smaller middle of the road teams have got better.

You think a team and manager spending 5th can reach the top 4 in one of the most difficult leagues in the world with planes overhead, rants, protests and boycotts? You are joking. How did Emery get on with the fans behind him?

our own fans mocking our own team, and saying Top4 isnt a trophy. Now look at them.
