A new formation wont help if the team never gets men in the box, this has been the problem for five years and it doesn't look like changing.

Watch Man Utd and see just how many players they routinely put in the box to get on the end of things, particularly when they really need to get a goal. It's all percentages, they make the odds of them scoring a goal rise dramatically by doing that.

Go back to watching Arsenal play and you'll see us frequently have one or maybe two players in the box against anything from three to six opposition players. With those kind of numbers it's no wonder we turn over possession almost every time a cross is attempted.

It's also highly self destructive to play one of our strongest aerial threats out wide, when he should be in the box trying to get on the end of things.

Like illusion said its not the formation , its the movement in the final 3rd its indecisive , lacks movement so they crowd each other . They are educated in keeping posession not so much in breaking a defence down .

It's not one thing. It's a problem borne out of many failings.

I think we would create a hell of a lot more chances with another striker up front. A striker who plays only between the tram lines. ( never wider than the margins of the penalty box)

We also lack width.

We also lack movement from midfield. ( none of our midfielder make Lampard / Ljungberg like runs into the box)

We lack attackers running the front and back post for every cross.
