"We're talking about shirt front sponsors here Captain and not manufacturer labels."

I know what you are talking about, my intial post was in reply to this comment by Beany;

"I guess as long as Barca is able to support itself financially through its (huge) membership, then why advertise."

But the truth is that all sponsors provide the same function, whether they have their name across the front of the shirt or they provide the kit. Everyone knows that Nike sponsor Barcelona and in recent years the two 'brands' have become almost symbiotic (same as with the Brazil national team).

Seems strange to praise a club for 'maintaining it's identity' when it is in fact commercialised as much as any other team.

I guess they're getting enough money from other means to not have to have a shirt sponsor. But it's true, Nike and Barca have a very very close relationship (with obvious financial benefit), moreso than other Nike-sponsored clubs (us included).

i don't really follow the nike - Barcelona link.
biggest revenue are the fans. don't forget we have over 70000 avg for all the season. Comes with that we participate in a lot of other sports => even more fans.
Any way, if i remember correctly, Barca was the club with the 7th biggest revenue in the world, so why bother for a sponsor? and as said before clean shirts have always been the way of Barcelona. it's a tradition...

Exiled,

The fact that Barca has no shirt sponsor, makes it more expensive for Nike to have their swoosh on the shirt. It's not a crowded space and it stands out, thus having more of a branding impact. Nike and Barca are joined at the hip.

But they don't.

So they're blatantly not.

No, not really EIN; the number of sponsors isn't really the issue.

It's the value of the sponsorships and how closely aligned the club is to the said sponsor.

Just as an example;

O2 isn't really synonymous with the identity of Arsenal, neither is Nike. (As of next season though, Emirates may well be).

Barcelona are a different proposition; in recent years the nike logo has become as closely linked to their club as the players and the fans. Sort of in the same manner that Nike is so closely linked to the Brazil team now (as I said above).

Without knowing the ins and outs of their sponsorship deals I can't comment at length, but that is the way that appears to me when I'm watching tv or in a foreign country.

has anyone read today's news of the world? I know its not a crediable newspaper.But they have direct quotes from Belleti, the Barca right back who scored against us.He said that Henry is not even in the top 10 strikers in the world. He also dissed Henry, saying that if he stays at Arsenal, he will continue to have disapointments in his carer.

****.

i really hope we get Barca next year, we will teach them a lesson!

i don't if the quotes are correct, but is an exemple of what i said before: what Henry and Wenger said after the game, are not lightly taken by Barcelona and its fans.

THEO WALCOTT

I was thinking today and Now i know that wenger made a big mistake letting him go to the training camp.

He would have been perfect in our situation. With 10 we could have got him on for Hleb in the 70th min and hit long balls to him on the counter. Surely the pace of Henry with Walcott would have killed them off.

to be fair. its not as easy as saying that. wenger wasnt to know we would be down to 10 men for the majority of the match. you might then say he should have taken theo with neway. but i would say we didnt need him. we had enough quality on the bench.

Oops, mods opened this thread again... here's the link to my respones that was supposed to be here...

About Belleti's words, it's strange i haven't found any new in any other newspaper. Did they veryfied them, about where and when did Belleti say them? Didn't found any new about it in spanish webs.

Maybe News of the world is a bit sensacionalist not good to trust. Just like our sport newspapers, after all. :)

no offence mate, but by the 70th minute, Henry had no pace left in him....

i just realized that were still talling about a game that has passed already. A game that, from a footballing perspective, was just an average game, if it wouldn't have been so important?
We're still talking about it, but actually it wasn't a top game. Important it was, but 'joga bonito'? now way...

We tend to talk about it for a bit on these forums, after the game, however good it was, perhaps more so if it was bad (as we question what went wrong).

The problem is that there's no more games to look forward to.

To be fair, we have been through quite a spectrum of topics in the last few pages.

Spot on. But to be fair this wasn't the only mistake made by Wenger in that game. Once again he tactically failed to deliver.
