One of the reasons why I’m not 100% on the Arteta bandwagon yet.

There are some logical defences that were made for him though that I can’t remember. Something to do with penalties and individual errors.

This is a case of the eye test not supporting the stats though. Emery would never have been able to shut down City (one shot on target in the semi) and Chelsea (no shots on target after the 10th minute) like Arteta did.

Let’s see what happens next season but any one thinking Emery = Arteta is in the minority atm.

Yeah I’m not tryna say Emery = Arteta. What I’m tryna say is that there’s a level with the current players we have that regardless of manager is gonna perform at that level.

Like no matter the manager you’re not gonna make Luiz and Mustafi less error prone, or make Xhaka faster, or make Bellerin solid technically. You notice how all Arsène, Emery and Arteta had to resort to 3 at the back because our CBS are so bad?

We need better players, the managers can only do so much.

So you think us finishing 5th and 6th in Wenger’s final season was due to fans?.
I know so. You try doing your job with people outside the office telling you **** off and planes flying overhead with the same message. And angry people ranting about how sh!t you are night and day on the internet. If that doesn't depress you nothing will.

And the last window didn't do much to address this problem, with the exception of Tierney it added to it. Tierney was a top buy.

So far this window isn't much better.

Fair, so i guess you attribute all of Wenger's success to fans? When they treated him like a God and praised him day and night. I guess the title wins and top 4 was all down to fans too!

Yep, this is essentially my take on it as well.

Not going to pretend Emery was right for us, it’s more that some of our key positions have a hard cap on what they can give us.

Wenger repeated mistakes and declined (in my opinion) but I maintain till this day that the players ultimately let him down more than anything.

Wouldn't say 'all down' to fans, but they played their part certainly. When the management, coach and players are all pulling together it's a recipe for performing above the boards investment.

Where do you get all this stuff from, apart from your own head.
Wenger supported the EUSSR publicly

He also tried to paint English genius in the PL as foreign

Arteta doesn't do it as he recognises the will of the people and that we want to make England great again.

There's no such thing as the EUSSR and never has been, much like the Wenger narrative, it's all made up hogwash for the gullible.

The freedom of movement rules transformed English football and players like Arteta and Fabregas benefitted from it. In fact Arteta has warned the FA that introducing Brexit restrictions on foreign players will damage the England national team - not improve it.

Lol what about the EU army, the 350 million a week we send to EU and the millions on Turkish border praying we stay in? The UK would be destroyed if we remained and overwhelmed in a week

Any proof of Arteta saying that? If he did, we need to sack him and bring in Eddie Howe, he can't do worse.

I think you used word myopic when you gave me a lecture about not understanding how a winger/midfielder would improve our current defence, when I suggested we'd be better off addressing the CB situation.

"Because it’s extremely myopic to attribute a poor defensive record solely on defenders."

So we bought Pepe and got in Ceballos to replace Ramsey. How well did they improve Mustafi/Sokratis and Luiz's blunders overall?

To some extent I think you're right if the problems with the defence is caused just by excessive pressure. But I've watched this guys do crazy things for long enough, particularly Mustafi, even when not under pressure.

My point was that I felt we were unable to keep the ball and create chances with all our outgoing midfielders without replacements which I thought would have helped the defence out more.

It turned out worse than even I expected.

In terms of expected assists we were 13th, we were 15th in shot creating actions per 90 and 16th in key passes.

This isn’t random either, our top six rivals ranked consistently at the top of these tables while we were at the bottom with midtable cloggers like Newcastle and relegation candidates.

Teams had us figured out by the third game of the season as they knew we couldn’t press, carry the ball or create anything.

From the Watford away game we were slaughtered, we faced the third highest shots on target against in the league this year behind Newcastle and Norwich.
