Doubt that he's what Arsenal needs atm.I mean,he did well at Wigan and made them better, but he likes to be very offensive and defence looks average.Reckon that this job is too much for him.
I agree I think if Henry was still his assistant at Belgium and we were getting the two it would be a far more romantic prospect. He wouldn't be one of my top choices but he's better than some of the names on our reported list...Sousa? Horrible idea

Martinez seems a nice man, but would be pretty bad here I imagine...he’s like Carlo, without the charisma...Nuno seems like someone who would at least bring some discipline to the squad hopefully.

Only reason I would have wanted Roberto, is if he brought Thierry with him, but that’s obviously not happening.

What’s this obsession with discipline?

I don't think discipline is the issue...I think it's organisation more than anything. If the new guy can come in...get a reliable cb (no point in a pair with saliba coming next year) and some legs and graft for the cm and organise them then our attack will give anyone problems. It's what Sp**s did....organised got 6 defensive players to do their jobs to allow 4 attackers to do theirs. Obviously it's not as simple as that but I think it would go a long way towards stabilising us

Slow day so trawling around the internet. I've been looking at specialist coaches at football clubs. It amazes me how few specific area specialist coaches there are in football. It seems to be the only sport that doesn't deal in marginal gains

I play rugby in the Welsh premiership and although it's only semi pro we have a manager, assistant, defence coach, attack coach, lineout coach, scrum coach, fitness coach, kicking coach and skills coach. Plus video and tactics guy. Specialist coaches are also brought in as necessary such as judo instructor to improve tackling and scrummaging grips. We had a top session just last week with a basketball coach focussing on handling and offloading.

From reading about it seems that loads of managers take the lead role in one of these areas themselves. To me a manager should be overseeing it all and delegating coaching and organisation to the best team he can assemble to put his vision/ethos into practice. Analysing what he sees and gathering feedback and picking the side from that.

From that I got to thinking, if the board are willing to put together a coaching team like this then someone like arteta having little experience wouldn't be such a problem as he could lean on his team as to how best get his vision into reality.

Just spitballing....as I said it's a slow day with nearly all games in Wales being rained off

I don't think we can afford Pochetto. Its probably 8-10 M per year plus heavy transfer funds.

I think we are looking for cheaper manager who can work with less transfer funds.

I think your spot on there. I think that's also the reason ancelotti doesn't fit the profile we are looking for as I think he'd want some heavy backing in the market.

If that is indeed the case losing mislintat and his ability to unearth cheaper talent becomes an even bigger blow

Then again, we cannot afford to not afford someone like Potchettino.

I think the club is in a position where they have to spend money, either in the short term with high quality appointees who can guide the club back to its safe waters. Or spend later, when the club loses out from a sporting and commercial standpoint, as a result of poor short term decision making, partially driven by what you are suggesting in your post.

I'm confident that this board, as weak as they are... they know that they have to get it right. No time for gambles this time round.

Speculate to accumulate!

I agree this is what we should be doing but I think we will ultimately baulk at potch costs and go for the cheaper option

Remember having to fight with several posters that Martinez was thrash and we shouldn't sign him.

Received a couple of death threats from @Rex Banter when he went to Atleti and a couple more when I was proven right.

It bears a burden.

Arsenal Quotes

In a football match anything can happen, the players, 90 minutes, fantastic moves, an element of luck, talent, courage, and touch of magic and, for those who are watching these men play, the search for excitement, for a memory, for a lesson in life.
