It's a shame what's happened to Italian football in general. I remember when I was a kid in the mid 90's Serie A was the best league in Europe and attracted most of the stars. I used to love watching it.

Most Italian teams don’t own their own stadiums. That’s one issue. Partly related to this is the issue of relatively low attendances outside of classic derby games when compared to other top leagues. So, the way to make money is profit from player sales, which they do quite well, but chunk of that money goes to other expenses than transfer fees for new players and player wages.
