Anybody got Klopps first transfer deals as Liverpool manager?

January 2016 and summer 2016.

Mane (£30 million), Gini (£23 million) and Matip (free) were the ones who made the difference in them taking our spot in the top four that season...they actually managed to make a profit with transfers tin 2016/2017 too

Don't think he signed anyone of importance in January 2016.

How do they keep doing this!?

That season alone paid the same for Mane as they got for Benteke, £15 million for Ibe ffs...amazing

I don't think their owners have actually put a dime into transfers you know

They've simply given Klopp the freedom to spend from what's available and coming in. They trusted him. They've made almost 300m in sales and the rest of the money came from CL final/CL win. Overall they probably made huge profit.

They have issued a 100M loan iirc.

Theres a lot of luck there and it still took 4-5 years to do it. nobody expected Salah to turn in to what he did either... and their squad was balanced to begin with. But Liverpool were competing against City this season who had lost Kompany and then Laporte got injured, on top of that Fernandinhos legs are gone and Rodri was only being bedded in this season. It might have been a different race with a fully functioning city. Utd and Chelsea have also strengthened massively this season. And lets not forget the constant slew of decisions they get - last night should have had at least 1 if not 2 red cards again. Thinking we can emulate that is very very optimistic.

Not convinced the current owner will provide any funds. There is certainly nothing in the past to suggest such investment.

I think we are going nowhere with KSE.

It took Klopp 2 years I just laid it out pretty clearly.

What? Klopp joined Liverpool in 2015??? It took him 4-5 years to win a title. He had time to create a culture of high intensity pressing and hard work. Liverpool had a better balanced team of under performers than we do. He had good backing by the board and got somewhat lucky in transfers ie. Salah and Firmino delivering far above expectations, Robertson and Arnold as well.

Also in those years we dropped off massively, utd dropped off massively, chelsea dropped off massively for a bit, Sp**s dropped off massively. Expecting a champions league spot next year is optimistic at best, like its possible but you'd expect city and liverpool to take the top 2 with utd and chelsea the following 2 spots. To challenge Chelsea and Utd for 3rd and 4th spot with 1 transfer window is asking a lot.

Thinking Arteta should win the title in 2022... thats pretty unrealistic.

They bought well, but they sold even better.

I always swing between dispair and optimism, but Tierney, Martinelli look like good business.

Leno was good business, Guendouzi good business.

Pepe the jury is out, talent there but question marks on mentality and application.
Saliba we hope for!

Auba even at his age was good business.

Torreira at his worst should be a break even.

Really, we are paying dearly for recruitment from 3-6 years ago, and contract mismanagement (Ramsey and Sanchez lost for peanuts).

We do need a short term injection of funds to get 2-3 serious footballers. If it's going to happen, it won't be a £100m check from Stan. The club will borrow the money or there will be some other method to raise funds. With that we can properly kick clear of Sp**s who are now in decline.

But it will still be a tough battle for top 4 next year.

Get to 2021 and clear some of the garbage off the books like Sokratis, Özil, Elneny and Luiz.

Now would be a decent time to cash in on Lacazette as he seems bang in form and there’s interest from big clubs overseas.

Also time now to make decisions on Holding and Chambers. They’re homegrown and will still hold good value if you sell them now, otherwise you’re keeping them for the first team. No loans for either hopefully.

That’s a pretty fat sales pile potentially if you can throw in a couple of others like Kolasinac who you don’t see a future for.

With some quality players about to be either relegated or coming up to the Premier League there’s a lot of room to pull off some master strokes this window.

Does anyone actually think we have a good chance of top 4 next year without any changes in the squad? There are clearly different expectations of what Arteta wants and what they are telling him now. If anyone thinks we *should* get top 4 what do you think we need to do it?

If we don’t make any additions you’re probably looking at the sixth or seventh best squad behind Liverpool, City, Chelsea, Utd, Wolves and possibly Sp**s.

The youngsters should be even better next year but we’d be overly reliant on Aubameyang and some average defenders.

Where are we going to find these average defenders if we don't sign anyone?
