Mikel Arteta: Aston La Vista To The Title?

Hm, I don't know who this chancer is but he's speaking facts that don't sit right with me, 'pparently we're finishing mid-table!

It's 100% correct. People get stuck on 'only being 6 points back' or whatever but when you look at the actual math, chances of a top-4 finish are basically 0 and of a top-6 finish maybe 10%.

If this team could could get to 60 points and get into Europe with a #7 finish in the league (assuming us or a top-6 team wins the FA Cup) that would be a massive result given the disaster of the first 15 games of this season.

What is interesting about the views here is that people are talking about giving the manager more time. Emery did not have that luxury. He got a season and 3 months before he was booted to the curb. He was judged based on the poor performances during his second season that led to his dismissal. If the mediocre form from his first season was a factor he should have been dismissed in the summer but he was not. He was allowed to continue and given resources as well (Though some players he did not want like Pepe came in against his wishes).

Yet people are saying that Arteta should not be judged on the **** show of this season. He should be given more time. Ignoring that he already got 20 games last season to get used to the players and league. So even though this season has been poor the standard for Arteta is relegation but the standard for Emery and Wenger was top 4. Such hypocrites.

This merely states to me how out of depth the manager is and how inconsistent these so called fans are.

First of all we’re not doing worse than last season. We’re 3 points better off at this stage. Second, Arteta has won 2 trophies in less time. Third, Arteta didn’t get nearly as much backing as Emery got, which is related to my fourth point, the covid effect. Arteta hasn’t had a pre season. You can’t underestimate the effect of the situation we’re in. Nothing is normal and it’s had an effect on football everywhere.

Wasn't the break between this season and the last a week longer than an international break?

If you want to talk about players overall fitness, sure. But tactics wise, that's a lot of bull. Squad was mainly the same, only addition to the first team were Willian and Gabriel.

Also, if Arteta didn't have a pre-season, neither did the rest of every other team on the league, so does he get the excuse and other managers don't, Dave?

Also, Arteta has been backed more than Emery, considering the club re-loaned Ceballos, actually triggered Partey's clause, got a very decent prospect in Gabriel and signed Willian for him.

As much as I disliked him, Emery got some very stop-gapish signings from Sven, Luiz from Kia and Pepe over Zaha.

Between the FA cup and the community shield, what was that, 4 weeks? Players were on holiday for 3 of those weeks. It’s normally 7 weeks. Pre season is normally when a manager works with his squad to implement new tactics and such. The lack of a proper pre season has had a huge effect, on everything. It’s no coincidence the table is the way it is, there are similarities all around Europe. There’s also no fans.

How’s Arteta been backed more than Emery? Emery had £215m of backing during the transfer windows under his stewardship. Arteta has had only £73m of backing since he’s been here. You work out the difference. You may say Emery wanted Zaha not Pepe, but Arteta didn’t get his preferred signing in Aouar.

Weren't you saying that Partey was an Arteta signing just the other day, LeeGunner fan n.1?

Emery lost many players during his time, especially Ramsey but also Kos, Monreal, Iwobi, Mkhitaryan, Cech......... meanwhile Arteta gets to demand us to give Auba a mega contract. He also got to make us offer Willian a contract that not even Chelsea is willing to give. He got most of the players he wanted, unlike Emery.

Emery didn’t like Ramsey at first. He’s partly at fault for the board not deciding to offer him a contract. Most others you mention were deemed to be dead wood. Regardless, so much money was spent to help Emery, and to help him build his own team, which Arteta hasn’t had.

Why can't he stop the board from releasing so many senior players?

this looks so bad for us, and so bad for morale.

Cause these senior players are useless trash and deadwood? You should be asking why Edu hasn't taken out the trash last summer, this window we should have been talking about getting rid of half of the squad who played in the Newcastle FA cup game.

Ramsey was a goner the moment we gave Özil and Mkhi their mega contract, the board should have been prepared to cash in on him before Emery even joined us. It was always going to be near impossible for us to afford having so many players on >200k per week. This is completely the fault of Raul, Gazidis and co letting Emery down.

My point is that Arteta has been given plenty of money to spend and to build his own team, if he is fired tomorrow he has zero rights to complain about the Kroenkes. It becomes difficult to argue about austerity in the club when you see Auba and Willian getting paid big contracts.

Because we are humans beings first. It is disrespectful to keep tearing up contracts. We rarely did that ever. And when we did, it was almost universally praised.

We kept Welbeck, we kept Cazorla, we kept Eduardo, we kept Wilshere, we kept Djaby, we kepts Chambers, etc etc etc.

We have always supported our players and treated them with respect. What we are doing to Saliba, Sokratis is not respectful.

Mods are unethical! Özil, come assist me please!
I wonder if he will introduce any youngsters?

From the conveyor belt, who is next?

Matt Smith? Moller?

£73mil is not nearly enough backing for Arteta. There is a wage budget and a transfer budget, they’re not one in the same. Arteta wanted to keep Auba, as did the fans, but he’s not negotiating contracts is he?

Don't think you understand, we are already doing these players a massive favor by tearing up their contracts. Other big clubs would have refused to let their deadwood go without getting at least a bit in transfer fees for them. We are already treating our players better than we really should. Let's not sugarcoat what these senior players are, they are the failures that led to Wenger and Emery being fired from this club despite being given numerous chances. They have no rights to complain about being treated poorly by the club.
