Our guys are either old and error prone, simply poor, slow and weak or too young.

Mari is slow and weak. Nothing to see here. We’re ****ed.

Luiz and Mari both play LCB so we won’t be signing another one there. At RCB we have Saliba, Mustafi, Sokratis, Chambers and Mavropanos. Saliba and Chambers will stay which means we need to ship off Mustafi, Sokratis, Mavropanos and Holding if we’re to bring one in.

Luiz will be starting next season by the way.

Don't buy that money excuse either. That talented Brazilian player in France will go for similar or even cheaper than both Mari and Luiz cost.

Wenger spent 95M on Centre backs in 22 years you know, including Mustafi. Sold them for 40M. So a net spend on CB‘s of 50M in the Wenger era.

The club has never adequately invested in defenders.

Mustafi: Midtable quality error prone
Sokratis: in decline and midtable quality
Luiz: in decline and error prone
Holding: Bottom 10 quality injury prone
Chambers: midtable quality injury prone
Mari: unknown quality but very likely midtable quality
Saliba: too young and it's unfair to even trust him to make us good
Mavropanos: talented but he not starting quality.

so all in all our defense is midtable quality and that where we finding ourselves yes we have conceded less goals than Chelsea who are likely will be in CL but our defense cost us too many games and can't be trusted if we want top 4 even top 6 a major overhaul needed at least 4 of these 8 should leave Holding Sokratis Mustafi should all be sold Mavropanos will likely go to another loan with better club hopefully PL.

He's not as useless as many make out, decent passing. But imo he was signed because the fee was very low and we're moving on guys like Sokratis and Holding, we'd probaly sell Mustafi and loan Mavro.

He's better on the ball than all of them.

Yes Wenger always focused on attacking players or playmakers because we play good football and don't want great defenders to win games most PL teams back then were not heavy spenders and having good quality but things changed and we have to start spending on defenders.

Mari is not useless he on low wages and we buy him cheaply he good on ball and good in air the major problem with him can be pace but so was Mertesacker but Mertesacker positioning and game reading was top class that's why lack of pace was not major worry.

The problem is finding that commanding CB without adding dross to dross. Klopp did it in one and a half seasons but was aided with the sale of Coutinho to fund it.

Wouldn`t say he`s lightweight, he`s 6 foot 4 and of decent build. But he looked slow as ****, with the turning circle of an oil tanker.

The other is a 27 year old Spaniard who has never played top flight European football and had to move to Brazil.

Why’s Mari getting a pass here, because he’s “ cheap and low wages “? What sort of loser mentality is that? He still takes up squad space for an actual talented defender? Don’t give me this “ he’s good on the ball “ bollocks either, big deal he can ping a 60 yard pass, but he’s a defender who looks weak defensively and moves like 78 year old with arthritis. Playing a high line with him next season looks like football **** to me.

Not quite the same but people discounted VVD at Celtic until he moved to Southampton (not exactly a huge move) and then the rest is history

Need a guy that is an undisputed first choice CB.

The competition created should then bring the best out of the other 4/5 bums we have and hopefully create a halfway decent pairing.
