I'm excited to see what happens next. No expectations for the Liverpool game though.

Lol, I think it's more about the manner of the loss...should've at least come away with a draw instead we lost due to defensive stupidity once again.

Yep, Klopp's style of play is the antithesis of Wenger's play and kryptonite. We have to do a Dortmund away a number seasons back. Defend well and knick thr winner.

The **** is this? That table looks utter crap. Who are all these players we're supposedly missing?

The much more reputable Physioroom has us ... joint 15th with 2 injuries. Only Burnley (1), Chelsea (1), and Southampton (0) have fewer.
Your table is for one week. This table is cumulative where they award one point for each reported injury every week.

It used be run by the 'reputable' physioroom.com, but they stopped doing it last year and handed it over to the Daily Canon, who carried it on.

Seen it reported on here many times. Don't think it's particularly sophisticated.

If it's utter crap I look forward to your analysis.

Nothing to lose in this game and everything to gain. We need to play like a small team against them. Sit back, stay solid in defense and hit them on the counter and make set pieces count. Liverpool do well against possession based teams like us and demolished Bayern recently.

They key is to let them have possession and then see how they can get something when they are not chasing the ball around. High press is their modus operandi, possession is not their forte. If Arsenal's midfielders and defenders can prevent through balls, we should be good.

I'm expecting a great game. Liverpool are favorites but I am hopeful that Arsenal can pull off an upset.

Ok, sure thing.

We've got 14 points. 1 point each time a player misses a game through injury. This is where they've come from:

Arsenal v Leicester (9 points):
Campbell, Joel – Knee Surgery
Cazorla, Santi – Plantaris Injury
Coquelin, Francis – Ankle Injury
Mertesacker, Per – Eye Injury
Özil, Mesut – Ankle Injury
Paulista, Gabriel – MCL Injury
Ramsey, Aaron – Calf Strain
Sánchez, Alexis – Abdominal Strain
Wilshere, Jack – Broken Leg

Stoke v Arsenal (5 points):
Campbell, Joel – Knee Surgery
Cazorla, Santi – Plantaris Injury
Mertesacker, Per – Eye Injury
Paulista, Gabriel – MCL Injury
Sánchez, Alexis – Abdominal Strain

Özil and Ramsey both played against Leicester. They don't count as injured.
Mertesacker was on the bench against Stoke. He doesn't count as injured.

Neither Gabriel (sold) nor Campbell (hopefully sold soon) are in our squad.

Wilshere doesn't have a broken leg, despite the best efforts of that Man City u23 player tonight.

Making those obvious corrections:

Arsenal v Leicester (4 points):
Cazorla, Santi – Plantaris Injury
Coquelin, Francis – Ankle Injury
Mertesacker, Per – Eye Injury
Sánchez, Alexis – Abdominal Strain

Stoke v Arsenal (2 points):
Cazorla, Santi – Plantaris Injury
Sánchez, Alexis – Abdominal Strain

So that's 6 points. Which would place us ~15th in your 'injury league', incidentally exactly the same place physioroom has us currently.

Cazorla and Sanchez are the only two injured players in our squad. Sanchez is back soon and taking into account that Cazorla's only purpose at this point is to give you & the dailycannon 38 points for each of the 38 games he's going to be miss this season, I'd say we're doing pretty well.

Please don't disrespect Darren Burgess again. Cheers.

Sorry busy last night so didn't get a chance to study your analysis properly.

Much of the problem you highlighted comes from the day they collect the data.

If it's say a Wednesday for example Mertersaker may still have been registered as injured with the FA. But by the Saturday he was deemed fit enough to be on the bench for Stoke. Same with Özil and Ramsey on week 1.

They should collect the data on Saturday. But then what about Sunday, Monday, Friday and mid-week matches. If our Stoke game had been Wednesday, Mertersaker might not have been on the bench.

Similar problem with the squad, if a player is being sold they might still be registered as injured with the FA right up until the transaction day. But this won't be a problem for much of the year.

Can't see a way around these issues by just trawling data from Premier injury.com. They'd need to get matchday info from the clubs, or not bother. Over 38 games it might give you a rough idea of the state of injuries but not how they impacted on team selection.

EDit: Which is probably why Physioroom.com dropped that simple computer trawl last year and was taken up by Daily Canon.

Yup, not the worst idea but made it utterly pointless by doing their scoring on Wednesday not game day. If they can't be arsed to do it properly then they shouldn't do it at all.

Should also only extend to the PL squad of 25 to stop it unduly favouring big squads.

Yeah over many weeks it would give a feeling for the number of reported injuries but not how they would impact in matches.

4 wins in 12 with Atkinson in charge. Last season he was the referee who didn't think Alonso's challenge on Bellerin was a foul, he also did the game at the Etihad that involved some questionable decisions.

Coquelin has to start this one alongside Xhaka, maybe even go for an extra man in midfield and do something like this.

Cech
Mustafi Koscielny Monreal
Xhaka
Bellerin Coquelin Ramsey Kolasinac
Özil
Lacazette
Subs: Ospina, Mertesacker, Chamberlain, Elneny, Iwobi, Welbeck, Giroud

Can see us struggling going forward a lot with this. At the very least have Chamberlain instead of Bellerin. Alexis should be ready for the bench too.

Ramsey maybe should start at striker alongside Lacazette, this way we won't concede with him not being where he should be. He's being judged by what a striker does anyway, and not what we expect from a CM.
