    Thought I’d borrow this idea.

Yesterday was a frustrating day for us, and emotions were high. So it wasn’t the ideal time to put up this thread.

Today, we probably a bit calmer. So I’d like your thoughts on Emery’s performance halfway through this first season with us. Preferably in terms of a couple of factors, eg defense, offense, game management, potential, etc.

Don’t forget to give him an overall grade as well, grades per area is also welcome.

Performing slightly above average at the minute. The last few games have been disappointing, but if you had offered me 38 points after 19 games at the start of the season I would have taken it. We're only two points outside the top four despite having some glaringly obvious holes in our side, he needs to be backed in the January transfer window, our overall squad is arguably the worst in the top six.

His management of Özil has been frustrating but I also don't think Özil has performed anywhere near to his maximum this season. The constant injuries to various different players haven't helped our case in the last 4-6 weeks though and if we can get a couple of players in Jan I think we'll get top four.

Im very pleased with the fact that he can make swift decisions when things aren't going our way. Subs at half time were things you'd never see under Wenger. I'm also very pleased with the transfer activity so far. Torreira has been excellent and Guendouzi is a real gem. Sokratis is our most reliable defender and we are finally without Petr in goal.

Regarding our play, I don't see a big difference yet. We're still defensively suspect, have loads of personal errors etc. But I don't blame Unai for that. He has inherited a flawed squad and needs time to adjust. I'm confident he can do that.

We are still fighting for fourth and cruised through our EL group. I'm giving him a 7 so far. That could go up to a 9 depending on transfer business and competitiveness the next 6 months or down to a 5 if we do an Arsenal and **** everything up. Won't get lower than that since its his first season.

Would have been higher a few weeks ago but he’s looked off the pace in recent weeks.

Positives are the way we’ve got results in most of our big games so far, the second half improvements in most of our games and the way he’s introduced Torreira and Guendouzi to the line up.

On the other side of it we look so soft at the back right now, and he makes some baffling substitutions.

I’m worried we’re going to force Lacazette out as he clearly looks annoyed.

Overall he’s done well but needs to be backed in the winter transfer market if we’re going to push on.

    - Unlike Wenger he does change things when it's not working as he expected.
    - Players work hard for 90 min.
    - Likes to play the Arsenal way with a lot of passing and movement.

    - Has no clue how to set this team up, the further the seasons goes the worse he is at setting things up, and it should be the exact opposite.
    - Created a lot of chaos in recent weeks, key players are frustrated and he is killing any chance of consistency in them.
    - Doesn't give chances to academy players, rather sticks with proven failures in games where they could actually get some experience without having negative impact on the result.
    - Over reliant on individual brilliance instead of having a working system.
    - Terrible man management, we've seen how this worked out for Mourinho.
    - Questionable team selections, subs worked out most of the time so there is a feeling that he is a great tactician, but in reality it was the initial selection that was flawed and he needed to change things as soon as possible.

A lot of good work was done by Sven and Sanlehi that Emery takes credit for. New players (Torreira, Douzy, Papa and Leno) massively improved the quality of the squad.
Considering how good this squad is and that we still need top quality wide player and CB, I would say that we are having expected results (maybe we could've got few more points), but our competition is very consistent and we'll be there when we add those 2 additions to the squad.

    7/10 for table position
    4/10 for players management
    5/10 for tactics

I expected more if I'm honest, he is far away from Wenger's quality.

7 out of 10. I don't think there has been a massive overall improvement. We are still sloppy defensively and misfire to frequently in front of goal. Work to be done. Injuries haven't helped in recent weeks and he still hasn't got enough new players to outst the under performing Wenger players.

Initial good work undone with constant changes and zero consistency in terms of personnel, tactics and formations.

This season feels exactly the same as last year, beat Sp**s and then proceed to **** up against ManU and some other **** teams before the reality check of Europa League quality.

Top 4 is easier to get this season. Hope he doesn't **** up, otherwise we might as well have kept Wenger.

    Negative stuff

    - Lots of chopping and changing of formations with little positive results.

    - Not being clear in the summer on whether he wants two key players (Ramsey and Özil) in his team or not.

    - Bad man management, which was a problem at his previous clubs that in our excitement refused to acknowledge.

    - No real defensive set up despite trying so much to create one by benching non-defensive players.

    - No real attacking set up besides creating chances based on individual qualities.

Positive things that Emery has brought are:

    - Making us one of the hardest working teams in the league.

    - Playing out from the back much improved since he arrived.

    - Helping improve some players like Xhaka, Bellerin, Kolasinac.

    - We play better on the counter attack.

Overall, very disappointed. I really wanted Emery to work out here, but I don‘t think he is the man who can win us a Premier League title or win us a CL title. But he can be our van Gaal and get us back into the CL by winning the EL. After that we could see if someone better is available and proceed from there.

Either way, unlike with Wenger I don‘t feel so hopeless because Emery is not untouchable like Wenger was and if we don‘t reach our target he will be sacked.

Factually correct. Last season was our lowest finish under Wenger. So the players were either under performing or not good enough.

Unless you pin all the blame on Wenger?

People were crying for a new manager because he could improve the players with better management.

Now they're seen as "underperforming Wenger players".

After we beat Sp**s i thought things were on the up and i have backed him. But the last few games is mind boggling, maybe hes not used to having a xmas busy schedule i dont know. Hes clearly over complicating things.

El Duderino 99 Problems But A Mitch Ain't One

6.5 out of 10 for me.

Let's preface this by saying I think he needs the next two transfer windows to get a more balanced squad.

He has us a bit more focused and that has managed to get us points where we might've dropped them last season under Wenger - mainly due to our horrid away form.

Has improved a couple of players, mostly Bellerin and Xhaka (though the latter is more due to having Torreira at his side), while integrating Torreira and Sokratis well enough into the squad.

And while we only have 1 clean sheet in the last 12, we feel a bit more organised in defence as a unit, the fact we lead the conceded goals from individual errors in the league has me hopeful this will be remedied with better personel.

Now, on the flip side, for a pragmatist who prepares tirelessly for games, he's been getting his selections wrong more ofter than not. The half time subs are good to see, but they also point to the fact that there is a problem with his pre match tactics.

Only one 1st half won in the PL all season, where we did well enough the second half (partly) because our physical conditioning and deeper squad kicked in and we outlasted some of the teams we played against. Well December is here and we've the injuries and congested match calendar and that edge is pretty much gone.

His U-turns on Özil and Ramsey, over reliance in Guendo and the constant tinkering have me worried that he's at a very insecure stage when what we need is a stabilising force like we had with him in the beginning of the season.

Hopefully we can get another body in CB and maybe a Winger so we can finish the season strongly.

Where did I say there wasn't improvement? Xhaka has improved considerably Mustafi has improved also. But going from 5 out of 10 to 7 out of 10 isn't enough for where we aim to be.

Seems Unai's constant tinkering is something new according to GFN

On the other hand Sevilla followers are not surprised to see him tinkering every game.

he started out with a minimum of a year to improve us before being criticized - I would have liked to see him use the first part of that year to sort out his best 11, and get them playing together as a team, without constantly switching formations and substituting early, even if that meant losing games we should have won

team spirit is one of our strengths, and I fear he is in danger of destroying it by leaving players uncertain what is required of them, both in terms of individual performance and positional play

he gets 6/10 for me so far

    Would give him a 7 & the whole set up a 6.

Emery has brought a good mentality from the first day & turned around the away form impressively. His tactics on occasions, handling of big players, no real set formation & the quality of defending are all a concern.

The management team as a whole ****ed up the Ramsey situation & made the crazy decision of going into the season one CB down + one fit LB... Just asking for trouble.
