That conversation if you all rememeber might add something to this discussion. Flamini was just thrown in as LB in a minute's decision in the dressing room or wherever they make the starting list. As usual during those times, wenger was hailed as a genius for that, where I think it was just good luck the flamster turned out like that. Kudos to flamini.

And wasnn't the invincibles defence acquired by the previous manager?

No! How long have you been following Arsenal?

Who is this "Dimitry Alexandre" that sky claims wenger has included in his 25 man squad? A new keeper?

Anyone else disappointed that Eboue doesn't have a comedy middle name?

I was expecting Emmanuel Van Basten Eboue.

Its a stupid argument with regards to Wenger being inept coaching defense. Coaching defense becomes easy once the coach adapts to establish a consistent defensive approach to games. Unfortunately our coach and I believe the support of the fans (when it works) chooses to take an offensive approach to games. It comes with its consequences. You will be more vulnerable at the back. Comparing the current squad to the invincibles doesnt help any argument. A different era with different type of players and different playing system.

Doesn't take a scientist to tell your GK that he should defend his near post first and foremost. Simple things that just don't get drummed into them.

He's added 1 starting player as a result of replacing Gallas - the rest of it has added depth. F*cking Bham showed more ambition signing Hleb, and f*cking twitch showed more ambition in getting VDV on the last day. AW is still protecting his 'chosen' despite his assurances last season that they need to perform on merit.

We've just been debating whether we can afford to slot Cesc and Rosicky into the same starting lineup, so where would we be using van der Vaart?

Let alone Hleb who has spent the best part of the last year telling his Stuttgart teammates he's too good to play with them.

In short, **** Hleb and van der Vaart, we needed a keeper!

Depth is good, crucial even (and a common and valid criticism for seasons past). You can't simply discard the current players, no matter whether you think they are the 'chosen' or the result of a 'project'. Most of them are actually damned good!

Even our "bad" players are damned good. We really don't have any genuinely bad players, just players who aren't quite good enough or players we don't happen to appreciate for whatever reason.

They were assembled by a different previous manager.
