I think one big positive we can take in this season is the way the team tactically evolved.

The evolution was actually towards more of an orthodox 433, rather than a gimmick system where you have fullbacks coming into midfield, midfielders pushed up on the last line ect.

Ødegaard playing more as a traditional midfield playmaker, with the left back not coming into midfield as and Kai playing as a proper 9 were big difference makers.

I think Arteta put more trust in the players quality, rather than relying on tactical nuances, which gives me even more confidence this team is here to stay.

You can do that when the quality is there. Arsène was given credit (and rightly so) for trusting the quality of his players, but when you've got guys like Bergkamp and Henry up front what do you even need to tell them? Other than an outline of tactics, perhaps tweaks vs certain opponents etc. you can trust in that quality to deliver on the day.

What we're seeing with this team is the players are now at a level where you can trust their quality, players like Saka have gone from raw talent to consistent performer, we now have Rice in midfield instead of El Neny, Gabriel/Saliba instead of Luiz/Mustafi etc.

I should have said Giroud. It would have been heartwarming to see our man from Montpellier get such stalwart support, but alas, our man from Poole will have to do....

Is this off topic? Feel free to move it Mods but it is technically a review of the season. Or is it just for answering the questions from the OP?

And the video sums up what I've been saying, we lost the league in December. Basically Rice as the single pivot and Havertz in that 8 role didn't work but Adam Cleary seems to be mostly "blaming" Rice (he's more blaming the role than him personally). Rice as a single pivot isn't gonna help break down a deep block.

Yeah, i don't think Rice 6 would have been an issue if we had an actual no8.

Arsenal Quotes

I often relive those 49 undefeated matches. I do believe in signs to a certain extent, and as I was born in 1949, I sometimes tell myself it was our destiny to lose the 50th. Those 49 matches are etched within me and within each player: it is something fundamental, a triumph born out of passion.
