Draft CL Draft: Quarter-Final 3: Pigge Utd vs The Sauce Squad

Onto quarter final 3 and it's a treat for everyone, the hands down best team in the game... who somehow finished 3rd. It's the Sauce Squad of myself and @Trilly a team bursting with firepower all over the pitch that is surely going to waltz to the title. They had a bye in the last round so must be rested.

We're up against heavy underdogs @pigge utd who also had a close win over @Riou and his team Crackhead FC. Lets have a look at his team...



As for the Sauce Squad they're rolling out with this line up...

So onto the next game…

The Galacticos are in town. The Sauce Squad has finally arrived in the knockout stages.

A fearsome team led by ballers like MBappe and Ronaldinho but most importantly co-managed by style icons Rex and @Trilly



No selection dramas or beef, just good vibes round here buddy.

As for @pigge Utd they overcame a plucky Crackhead FC with some timely goals from Aguero and a costly miss from Mason Mount. Against the Sauce Squad however it’s a different matter… they were beaten soundly in both games they’ve played so far losing 2-0 at home and 3-1 away to the Squad.

One bit of drama for @pigge though as he falls out with both his English full backs, Trent and Ashley Cole in training the week before! He decides to go with a full back less formation much to the bemusement of the media and fans, lining up with centre backs and a dual defensive midfield pivot.

The Parc de Pigge is alive with noise as the two teams leave the tunnel, the Sauce Squad in their Gucci x Supreme custom tracksuits and the managers cladded in Armani suits. The game kicks off and away we go!

It's an extremely slow start to the game, both teams camped behind the ball, cautious not to make a mistake. First 10 minutes crawl by without even so much as a shot from either team. The first action of note comes 15 minutes in with Griezmann flying away on the counter after a set piece...


Plays a great ball to his countryman Mbappe who's away and almost through on goal...


Until he's brought down by Carvalho!


The Squad players surround the referee, they're adamant he was the last man... the referee reaches into his pocket and pulls out....


A YELLOW CARD!


On replays it seems that Marquinhos was just about covering so a good decision from the referee. The free kick is in a great position though and Ronaldinho gets it over the wall... it's dipping AND...


WELL SAVED BY OBLAK!



Goalmouth action is hard to come by though, when Gattuso has been the standout player of the first half, that tells you all you need to know about the excitement. The rugged Italian has completely shadowed Scholes and Zidane out of the game so far killing any sense of flow for Pigge Utd. Apart from a few ranged shots there's almost nothing at all of note all the way to the final 5 minutes of the half

A good turn from Zidane in midfield this time throws off Gattuso, he looks up and plays a good early pass to Robben who takes it in stride...


He tries to take Alaba for pace going on his outside, it's a foot race as Robben gets to the byline...


Cuts back...


And goes down.... PENALTY!!

The Parc de Pigge explodes in noise, Zidane takes the ball ready to take...


But wait! The ref is running to the monitor much to the boos and whistles of the home crowd... it's a VAR check!


He watches for what seems an age... runs back... and...



REVERSES HIS ORIGINAL DECISION!!!!



A yellow card comes out for Robben for a blatant dive, his countryman van Basten is furious and starts jabbing his finger in the referee's face... and he's shown a yellow card!

That's it for drama in the half though and it winds down to a pretty dry 0-0.

Second half underway and a murmur goes round the ground as star playmaker Ronaldinho is sat on the Sauce Squad bench!

He has an ice-pack taped to his calf which is a huge blow to the chances of the Squad of getting a victory in this away leg. In his place they've gone for Hernan Crespo with Mbappe moving out to the left wing.

The half starts at the glacial pace of the first until almost an hour in it explodes into life... Gattuso crunches into Zidane for a 50/50 which the referee lets go...

On the counter now Griezmann breaks centrally into the @pigge utd half... he plays a great pass ahead to Deco....


He sees Mbappe move into the box.... looks to feed the Frenchman who gets a toe on the ball....


AND IS CAUGHT BY THE TRAILING LEG OF MARQUINHOS! PENALTY!!


This time VAR confirms the penalty foul almost immediately... however the original tackle by Gattuso is under review... just when it seems like it's surely going to the referee the decision is confirmed... VAR CHECK COMPLETE!


Mbappe selflessly gives the ball to Crespo, maybe as he was fouled he doesn't want to take it...


The Argentine steps up... and.....



SCORES!!!!

He sends Oblak the wrong way and it's a huge moment! The Sauce Squad are ahead in the tie and have an absolutely vital away goal!


It's crunch time now for Utd... they have to turn this round tonight or this tie is surely over...


They make a huge call and bring on Jakub Błaszczykowski for a angry looking van Basten. They need to get pace into wide areas as they're top heavy with strikers right now.


70 minutes gone though and once again sloppy play from Utd gives the Squad the chance to counter... Mbappe flies past an all at sea Scholes... into the box again....


And goes down again...

The referee runs over card in hand...


And shows it to Mbappe... CLEAR DIVE!


The game is truly grinding to a halt now though, Squad are trying to park the bus and despite a lot of huffing and puffing @pigge Utd really haven't offered much. Their manager is eager to change that though and they start throwing more men forward.


It's a huge gamble though as if they concede a second goal the tie is surely done. Still though going into the final 5 minutes and they're well on top now with the Squad camped almost in their penalty area.


A tired challenge from Deco gives Utd a free kick in a dangerous area... Zidane puts the ball down dripping sweat but with a focused stare....


He steps up... it's a good free kick... A GREAT FREE KICK....

WHAT A SAVE FROM NEUER!!


The ball runs out... Neuer scrambles to get to it...



BUT NOT BEFORE AGUERO!!!!

Great striker work to follow in and pounce on the loose ball before anyone else to give Utd an absolutely huge equaliser!



Now it's an all out onslaught with a baying home crowd... the ball is worked in minutes later for new substitute Anelka... the ball sits up for him and he fires it towards the bottom corner...



Where Neuer makes an another incredible save!



It's more and more pressure but into the final seconds and it seems like the Squad are taking a draw back to the Wanda Saucetropolitano. Zidane fires a diagonal ball into the box where it's headed out...


Long shot from Robben but it's blocked by Kroos....


The defenders are pushed well up by this point for Utd and the ricochet wrongfoots the Sauce Squad backline and bounces to Piqué in a good area...


He takes a touch... they're queuing up on the right...


He plays in Aguero....


Who....

SCORESSSSSSSSSSS!



He gives Neuer no chance, blasts into the bottom corner and with virtually the last kick of the game Utd have scored two goals in the final 10 minutes to win the game and keep it all to play for in the away leg.



The Squad players look furious and their manager's reaction says it all...

Yeah, guy is a machine when you don't have to take his injury record into consideration. Marquinho with his rash decision making, might have to sub him out for the second leg!

Change in defence made a clear difference! Can't think of better attack than this of the top of my head.

Huge victory for Pigge UTD as expected at home.
