Guiseley 5 : Bishop Auckland 2
2 October, 2004
Team: Clementson, Collins (Irvine 75mins), Foster (Dunwell 88mins), Morgan, West, Neil, Moore, Salvin, Ludlow, I'Anson, Wilkinson
Two more debutants for Bishops with Paul Collins in defence, and Lee Ludlow up front to make it 28 players used this season so far. With a strong wind on their backs Bishop kicked off with high hopes and when Collins crossed long for Steven West to head home imperiously from the far post on 7 minutes things were looking good.
Guiseley's finishing was wayward in the first half and Bishops should have led by two when I'Anson fired home only for the linesman to indicate, incorrectly, that Chris had strayed offside.
With only a one goal lead, it was always going to be hard to hang on to the points playing against the wind, and also kicking into what was clearly a smaller goal at the other end.
Cooke equalised on 47 minutes after some defensive chaos and Stuart scored on 53 with Clementson helpless having strayed away from the goal chasing a long throw.
Parke added a third with a low shot on 66 minutes and on 75 minutes Clementson left his line to force Cooke wide only to see the Guiseley player stab it low into the unguarded net.
The fifth came on 88 minutes when Clementson left the box to make a routine clearance only to kick air and find the ball behind him and rolling goalward. A fitting end to an abject day. Cooke grabbed his hat-trick when applying the finishing touch a foot from the line.
Mark Foster left the field with a painful looking injury and substitute Irvine grabbed a second for Bishops in injury time but this hardly lifted the despair.
