Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang: From Thriller To Bad, Should He Just Beat It?

Thats not a bad thing if your style of football is good though. Pep did it his first season now look at him. It’s a shame Mikels style of football is like Burnley’s.
It only works for Pep because Man City spend billions on players, City ain't buying guys like Ben White or Ramsdale and if they do it's only for HG status not to actually play them i.e. Delph.

or the finest like Grealish and possibly Kane.

There's a lot of evidence to support that Arsenal and City play similarly, we just don't have the players for it. Spending 40-50m for each position for Arteta to be able to do it is ridiculous as well.

Wasn't it covid? Swear I read that somewhere.

Weird they haven't said anything officially if that's the case though.

one of the Athletic boys on a podcast was not sure if we had announced a covid case for a player before. the ones they could remember were made public by the national team first.

The other wIngback(Pepe) seemed to have a good season though?
I think too much is made out of Auba`s apparent lack of goals though. He is in poor form. Should be in the bench as of now. Over the next few months, he will have lots of opportunities to improve his form and come back to the first 11.

You make a good point regarding Pepe. I didn’t think he did have a good season but he ended the season well and I’m really hoping it continues this season.

The problem here though is what the manager has in Pepe and Auba and what he wants are two different things. In terms of general play these two are at best technically average. They do however specialise in two things. They are goal scorers from wide and they have exceptional off ball movement. They have the ability to move off the ball and lose the opposition players around them they can both end up in or work their way into goal scoring positions.

With these two we should be looking at 35 goals minimum in the league from wide forward positions. However, where many managers would have come into Arsenal and said it is these two that are going to score those extra goals to carry us until we can dismantle the squad and play my way, Arteta has them playing the way he thinks a player in that position should. And the team in general is too defensive now because Arteta is afraid of its defensive frailty. So instead of these two causing havoc and moving in ways that defenders are being pulled all over the pitch - they are tame because the system just isn’t getting the ball to them or to the areas they usually are.
I agree with your point regarding a lot being made of Auba’s goal scoring last season. There are a few things that happened to him personally which would effect his general well being and he also has to contend with being asked to play in a different role.

Sounds like another Özil affair. Bet all’s not well in dressing room with the players. If they speak . . .

I don’t like to speculate with Arsenal because well it’s Arsenal and too many people have their own reasons for publishing false information. Plus the club has developed a habit of leaking information when it suits them. So it’s interesting that we don’t know exactly what is the reason for their absence.

It's funny because according to some reports we're desperate to have them back, so it's not like Özil that we actively wanted to freeze out.

Maybe it's just a lame FOMO play for the transfer window idk. To see if someone bites and offers something for Auba or Laca that isn't a loan with option to buy

Hopefully this puts to bed any rumours about him leaving etc.

Had a look at his numbers last season, 15 goals. Those were the numbers giroud and lacazette would put up on average…

We expect so much from him because his first two seasons here were 30 goals each, as they have been everywhere else.

If Arteta gets the team going I fully expect him to fire again

my gut feeling is that Auba and Laca caught Covid whilst disobeying club rules designed to keep them safe, so have been in Arteta's bad books over it

Auba in particular needs to be more careful of his health after his bout of malaria
