Interesting that our wage bill is a fair bit higher than Liverpools when they've got the likes of Salah, Alisson, Van Dijk, TAA who are all proven world class performers. Robertson, Thiago, Konate, Diaz, Nunez, etc also you'd expect to be on decent wages.
Havertz has single handedly leapt us above them.

One of the more telling stats for me, because it gives us an idea of the quality of chances we are creating, and the quality of chances we are conceeding.

Our problem remains finishing, and Im confident we'll get that right in time.
This is the difference between your teams xG and their opponents. Quality or quantity? It's hard to tell. For example, a team can have 15 half chances without creating meaningful positions in the box, and have a better xG than a team who carves out 2 very clear cut opportunities and wins the game 2-0.

We're +0.8 on this chart which is good. But we're -3.5 on the difference between actual goals and expected goals.

Yes, we are currently performing below our XG, which suggests that this attack has a gear to step up to.
On the XGA front, we are slightly trailing which suggests that we do have a good defensive setup so far.

Both metrics show that the team has room for improvement, but they are also show that we are trending in the right direction with our performances.

The eye test and numbers are showing that we are moving in the right direction. If we maintain fitness to our key players, we’ll be right up there this season.

We just need to get going again, and build up some momentum.

Was going to come and post the ten game moving average for our XG difference @hydrofluoric acid, and I knew you’d beat me to it :)

Yup, looking good man. We are creating the chances from open play and limiting them a great deal on the other side. Statistically now we are better than early 22/23.

But we must get our attacking combination play back where it should be on the pitch though as that’s where it matters.

Still since Jesus came we have highest open play xG according to that stat. I find it very interesting. Guess everyone else is also struggling.

Arteta haters in the mud again. We aren't finishing our chances but this narrative of us having a bad season is completely untrue. As most people knew.

Over a longer period of time, these things average out. We will be there. Also, we have Partey and Timber to return to the squad. Things are looking good.

We are having worse season than the last, now we are -7pts with respect to corresponding fixtures last season.
And I hope that you are right regarding averaging out.

Averaging out in terms of xG, we should've score more vs. West Ham for instance yet we didn't, now we scored five vs. Palace. Yet people wanted to believe we were ****.

Football is a game of fine margins. We deserved to win Fulham (h) and West Ham (h), and for instance the game at Villa, we didn't deserve to lose there. That explains part of those -7 points. It doesn't mean we're worse than last year per se. We are still dominating teams and creating chances.

It doesn’t matter if you don’t score goals.
All this narrative that Arsenal deserved to win some match is irrelevant if they actually don’t win this match.
Scoring is very important in football, if you don’t score maybe you’re not so good as you think.

Also if Arsenal can’t win matches they deserve to win (as you said), what this tells us about Arsenal and their credentials to win something?
Champions usually win matches they don’t deserve to win, even when they don’t play well.

It's not irrelevant. If we play the West Ham game 10 times, we're winning it 8 out of 10 at least. Sometimes things work out differently. Same goes for City - Palace, where they drew 2-2. Scoring goals requires a fair bit of luck too. Besides, it's not like we can't score goals at all, we put 5 past Crystal Palace, 5 past Sheffield United earlier in the season, 6 past RC Lens. Not the best teams in the world, but still, we can score goals. In fact, we scored 88 last year with roughly the same set of players.

We can win matches we don't deserve to win too, look at Luton (3-4) or Brentford (0-1), where we were extremely lucky to get all three points. Even Man Utd, it looked like we were going to lose 1-2 in the 87th minute.

I'm very confident that if the team performances over a longer period of time says more about a team than winning some game that you didn't deserve to win. You might not win the league, but you will challenge for it.
