It's not just about the 6 points (which are hugely important). Emery with 6 points more in his first season would have been regarded as a success. However his football was brutal and we were not really improving the longer he was there.
Mikel in the PL has not been great. We havent seen anything better than Emery. This isnt just from this season but last season.
We lost "easy" games last season under Mikel. We got dumped out of the Europa League under Mikel. Performances have been poor and there doesnt seem to be any proactive style of play. Long and short is his football is terrible. Both results wise and on the eye.
People are unhappy with the club for a number of reasons. Such as
- Özil deemed not good enough for bench (we know it's not football reasons)
- 30m Saliba deemed not good enough
-paying 250k+ for our starman who's hugging the touch line and cant utilize his strong points
- changing formations with no clear idea as focusing too much on stopping opponent
- not rewarding good performances with starts ie Willock playing well EL and cant make the bench. You've banged the drum for Pepe and il admit after watching the Villa game we may as well give Pepe a go just to see if he can do something despite my reservations.
Bottom line we are sitting mid-table with no real look that we are going to be challenging for top 4 not based on Villa but based overall from league performances and results since Mikel took over.
We have watched Chelsea strengthen and improve. Sp**s strengthen and improve. We have watched so called inferior teams (Soton/Villa) coached to perform better than in all honesty they probably should based on players and budgets etc.
People say Arteta needs time. But hes been there guts of a year. Liverpool with Klopp after a year had a clear identity albeit not the players. But there was improvements. Brendan Rodgers after a year improved Leicester. Ole had United third last year. Mourinho after not much more than a year looks like hes getting a tune out of Sp**s. Us. We are regressing and that is why fans are starting to become anxious. Not just 6 points.
- I wouldn't be including Özil either, he isn't going to be here in 8 months time, not part of the long term plan and doesn't give 100% on the pitch. Quality wise he's obviously brilliant and I get why some people would be frustrated with that situation. May not even be down to Arteta.
- Who says Saliba isn't good enough? Nobody actually knows what's going on with that situation.
- Under Arteta towards the back end of last season Auba was the star man from the left. Auba has been awful this season, his touch has been horrendous and it isn't just down to the manager on that one.
- All I've seen is a regular 343 which switches into a 433 when necessary, not like he's going from 343 to 442 and then a diamond.
- You say about rewarding good performances with starts, but after the fantastic display at Old Trafford you cannot drop Saka, Partey or Elneny for Willock. Willock deserves chances, but he didn't deserve a start against Villa. I'd start him soon mind you.
