It’s so f*cking annoying we didn’t have Auba just a couple of years earlier.
Seems fan base is split about 50/50 now regarding Özil's legacy, but give it a few years and i'm sure the vast majority will remember him as a good player. Joy lives longer in the memory than disappointment, a few years from now fans will just look back at clips of him in his prime for us and think holy sh*t he was a great player.
Also I can't be bothered to check if this tweet is accurate but if it is it's pretty damning. Özil was supposed to be the start of an era, competing with Bayern etc etc, and Alexis is the only player we recruited to play with Özil who was at the level we were supposedly aiming for. Responsibility has to lie with Wenger and Gazidis for that.

We actually started the money era really well in terms of recruitment. Buying two genuinely world class players in their mid-20's for reasonable fees in successive summers, like that's outstanding recruitment. We just...stopped. So pointless, so many what ifs.

He was never a player that you can build a team around, even in his prime. Özil's the type of player that pushes a really good side into great territory. He's a luxury player, nothing wrong with that either.
