A-M POTS

Good Morning you degenerates.

In a fit of boredom, I decided to aggregate the MOTM polls @A__G so graciously posts each week into a running Player of the Season calculation. My (probably flawed) methodology was to assign 3 points for the player voted MOTM across all competitions, 2 points for the player who received the second most points and 1 point for the player receiving the third most points. For example, from the Yanited match Zinchenko received 3 points, Nketiah 2 and Saka 1.

I think you all may be surprised at the current standings:

1. Granit Xhaka, 19 points
2. Martin Ødegaard, 17 points
3. Thomas Partey, 13 points
4. Aaron Ramsdale, 12 points
T-5. William Saliba, 10 points
T-5. Bukayo Saka, 10 points
T-7. Gabriel Martinelli, 9 points
T-7. Gabriel Jesus, 9 points
9. Ben White, 8 points
10. Oleksander Zinchenko, 6 points
T-11. Fabio Vieira, 5 points
T-11. Gabriel Magalhaes, 5 points
T-11. Eddie Nketiah, 5 points
T-14. Kieran Tierney, 4 points
T-14. Matt Turner, 4 points
T-14. Takehiro Tomiyasu, 4 points
T-17. Reiss Nelson, 3 points
T-17. Marquinhos, 3 points
19. Rob Holding, 2 points
T-20. Cedric, 0 points
T-20. Emile Smith-Rowe, 0 points
T-20. Mohamed Elneny, 0 points
T-20. Leandro Trossard, 0 points

No, that checks out. Despite individual dips from time to time our midfield is our strongest asset. So, all three midfielders being top three makes sense.

Don't see anything controversial in there tbh. Maybe White could be a bit higher? Maybe.

I can’t see how Saka and Martinelli are so low. For me it goes Partey, Ode, Saka in order of importance

Its between Ødegaard and Saka. I'd probably give it to Ødegaard given he's leading the PL in goals from midfield. Almiron has more goals than Saka at this point.

I normally do not vote in these threads as season is going perfectly and normally more than one player deserve to be mentioned as player of the match, but I do agree with @BergMan's post. Xhaka was consistent in 99.9% of the matches this season.

I am pretty certain Arsène won MOTM for the West Ham game...so were he at?

Xhaka has been our most consistent performer of the season.
That an he's got 2 POTM' for this season, meanwhile Saka and Ode (especially) had slow starts to the season.

People really shouldn't be surprised.

Saka has brought himself back into contention being a dominant player over our slump, whilst Oordegaard and Xhaka had a quiet month in February. What surprised me most was that Gabriel only picked up 3 points during this period. Along with saka, he was our best player. Even saliba picked up more points than him during this period.

Good stuff. Don't defensive players have an upward hill to climb for MOTM voting generally speaking? This also speaks to our defensive nature this season as opposed to our offensive output last season as well as Kai's lack of influence across the board.
