Right Sometimes
Agenda AMN in midfield has very much become reality - you just love to see it
My only problem with him is his focus. He has a laid back attitude sometimes and switches off. Cant afford that in the middle of the park with how intense games are in the league.
True. I didn't really like his performances as RB. But I can't judge him based on that as he never wanted that role. Let's see how he plays as CM. Hope he makes it his own.I have been trying to explain, he doesn't switch off when central, he switches off when he is a full back and has dead time. It's harder to position yourself at full back than when at centre mid.
He will be either dribbling, passing, closing down, tracking, moving into space or tackling. He went just be standing on the wing or tucking inside while we predominately attack down the left. He can't fall asleep if he is being kept awake by too many things to do.
It's really encouraging that Arteta sees his qualities. He sees him as a dynamic box to box basically saying he can attack and defend with technical quality and a good passer. Something people choose not to see on this forum. Apparently his first touch is bad and he can't pass. Add the fact that he is incredibly athletic and agile while being a good stand up tackler.
He will have to bide his time though. Guendouzi is competing with Torreira, Willock with Özil which means the person he is gunning for is Xhaka. If Arteta plays Mari and Luiz, you negate the need for Xhaka, but AMN will only have sub appearances and the Portsmouth games to stake a claim unless there is an injury.
I mentioned before that AMN only really switches off after periods of being on the fringe of a game. If he's heavily involved early on, he usually doesn't have that problem. Any time I've seen him have careless games, it's usually been following periods of idle activity. As a CM, he'll have less of those times. His challenge really is to make sure that in those idle moments his reading of the game stays up to par.My only problem with him is his focus. He has a laid back attitude sometimes and switches off. AMN's passing has been the topic of much discussion on twitter too. General consensus is (wrongly) that he cannot pass. Think if he's given those opportunities in midfield, he'll surprise many.I have been trying to explain, he doesn't switch off when central, he switches off when he is a full back and has dead time. Touch and go but probably Willock marginally. Think he's cleverer (in some cases, safer) in terms of the passes he picks. AMN passes the ball quite quickly and can play the combination game a bit better.Who do you think is the better passer out of AMN and Willock? The latter strikes me as having more physicality and goal threat. So far I can’t see AMN being preferred ahead of him.
He got his chance there a while back and the same problems did persist. It lead to a lot of us saying he has a better chance at RB than in the middle. Still hope he gets his chance again though but I dont rate him highlyI have been trying to explain, he doesn't switch off when central, he switches off when he is a full back and has dead time. Passing is passing and using the fact that he's out of position makes no sense. Why would his passing suddenly get better when he's in the middle?I mentioned before that AMN only really switches off after periods of being on the fringe of a game. Because IMO I think he is already a good passer.Passing is passing and using the fact that he's out of position makes no sense. Why would his passing suddenly get better when he's in the middle?
WTF is that?!? Ya let's just completely ignore a player's performance in a position that he's played for two years now because he "never wanted that role".True. I didn't really like his performances as RB. But I can't judge him based on that as he never wanted that role. Let's see how he plays as CM. Hope he makes it his own.
Yeah. Let's play Auba as CB for two years and judge him based on that.WTF is that?!? Ya let's just completely ignore a player's performance in a position that he's played for two years now because he "never wanted that role".
I was a bit shocked to read that AMN fancied himself as a wide player more than he does a midfielder, unless I've got that the wrong way around? Weird when you consider he made his first impression in MF. Not sure if he's got what it takes in that position at a club like Arsenal, but he'll need a run there under Arteta's guidance for us to know. We know he's a handy RB and can cover there.Yeah. Let's play Auba as CB for two years and judge him based on that.
Not sure where you got the winger thing from. I remember him clearly say in many interviews that he sees himself as a CM.I was a bit shocked to read that AMN fancied himself as a wide player more than he does a midfielder, unless I've got that the wrong way around? Ya, as if that's ever happened!Yeah. Let's play Auba as CB for two years and judge him based on that.
"I'm a midfielder by trade, either central or on the wing, it's all the same to me."Not sure where you got the winger thing from. I remember him clearly say in many interviews that he sees himself as a CM.
Wow. Cleverly quoting half the statement. You should work as a journalist. He follows it by saying he was never a defender. He never played in defensive roles as a teenager.Ya, as if that's ever happened!

Why thank you. I'll definitely keep that in mind. Pffft... The point of me doing so was to correct your belief that he's not a winger. He was always a winger not a CM!!! Now though, he sees himself as a "midfielder", and that to him is either CM or winger! End of!!Wow. Cleverly quoting half the statement. You should work as a journalist.
