He kills defenders over the first few yards anyway, not sure how much power he has over long distances.

I caught myself thinking The Ox has Messi-esque potential whenever he had the ball. I won't get ahead of myself but looking at him playing you see he is capable of winning games on his own. That speaks volumes considering his age and the quality of the opponents he was up against.

Gervinho can power past players with pace he did up the left flank yesterday.

There is obviously a limit to how often he can do this, plus this game he was on as a late substitute, i.e. he had more energy at the time than the Man City players around him.

It's next to imposssible at top end Premier League level being able to beat an opponent for 90 minuets with blistering pace as we know all to well with Theo down the years, it's just to draining and at times I think Gervinho feels it later in games past the 70 minuet mark if he is a starter. Where as in Ligue 1 he would maybe be able to get away with it for the whole match.

Yeah, he's definitely rapid over the first few yards, but I haven't seen anything yet that suggests he can knock the ball ahead and sprint past the defender kind of speed. It's not a huge issue if he can't, anyway, because unlike Theo, he has good close control and can dribble his way past people.

I noticed that he has great acceleration but average top pace. That's probably why, unlike Theo, he uses trickery and rapid changes in speed to get past defenders in the final 3rd.

I think Gervinho's quick, but he isn't a what I'd call a strong runner. i.e, once someone gets near enough to make bodily contact, his top speed decreases. He'd benefit from improving his all round strength.

Serious question: is Gervinho quick? I can't figure it out.

I think he's got reasonable pace - but often when I've expected him to accelerate away from a defender he simply isn't able to. I certainly don't think he's slow, but pace isn't a main attribute of his.

He also has that Wilshere-esque knack for letting the ball run across his body and create space for himself. It's a joy to watch him and Pong make idiots of City's midfield yesterday

De Jong was made to look a fool a few times yesterday

The likes of Walcott and Bale have that kind of speed but are not as quick WITH the ball. Gervinho hardly loses pace when running with the ball and that coupled with being rapid over the first few yards can be far more devestating. Messi is the classic example of it I suppose

I really don't know what I make of Gervinho yet.

I would say he doesn't have particularly explosive pace like that of Theo or Bale. Bale unfortunately for us, has both power and pace which is a demon combination to have.

Gervinho is a bit of a hit and miss player. He doesn't always look like he has complete control of what he's doing and he's definitely not a clean striker of the ball - me and my mate call him club foot. But after saying that I still quite like him as a player. He gets into dangerous positions and is always looking to take his man on. After a few years of watching pitter patter football it's quite refreshing to have someone like him in the team.

Gunners of Arsenal: The Two Towers?

What else would be a good name for a partnership that totally bossed the midfield against a 120 mil team?
Heh, I like it, "You, shall not pass!" It's a great video, I didn't realise just how many turnovers Coquelin forced until I saw that vid.
They really worked well together as a tag-team to force turnovers, one would harass the player with the ball enough for the other one to come in from the blindside and steal it and then quickly release it forward. It brilliant to watch, I was enjoying the game so much until that goal.
