Your Only One types might be able to cut it in the PL if they’re young and athletic but at 33, can you really see him lasting a full season and doing well?

Rather Fraser as an option than Dries. Quality player but is 33 and lacks the physicality for the Prem. In other words, he's a talented little midget fit for the Serie A, La Liga or China.
If we’re going there, younger than Cristiano Ronaldo .. Not sure I’d be looking at Dries Mertens now. Not sure what problem we’d be solving by getting him.
Loved Mertens ever since he was playing at Utrecht and he would have been great here 2-3 years ago, but he wouldn't solve any of our problems.
Btw, he's 32 until May, so he'd still do a job for 2 seasons since he hasn't lost much of his speed.
In 1997/98 we became English champions as I had set myself three missions to carry out which I felt were essential. One: to have an impact on the result and the team's playing style. Two: to foster the player's individual development. Three: to strengthen the structure of the club and enhance its global influence.
