His movement is superb, so good at finding space, but unfortunately others are not on his wavelength, so many times he was ignored, so frustrating... Thought he struggled to do much with the ball in the 2nd half though and the whole team basically gave up after their goals.

He was quite awful, but so was everyone else. I get the feeling that no one believes in the strategy anymore and just phones it in.

Compare his performance today to Maddison's and you can see how much we are missing from our attacking midfielder.

One was involved all over the pitch and directed the moves of their team and the other spent their time at the opposite end waiting for the ball when as a midfielder, they should have been down there scrapping and getting involved to win it back.

it is the same predictable crap every game isn’t it? Few nice touches, and the same excuse that he has been let down by others.

It has reached a point where you can safely predict how he is going to fare against a good team. He is just not capable of individual brilliance is he?

No heart to grab the game by the neck and run away with it.

You won’t see him hit the top bin from a distance and lift the team, or dribble past 2-3 players and leave you in awe.

He is a talented technical footballer but doesn’t have the heart or the skill to make something out of nothing. Purely a luxury footballer who is too dependent on the quality of his teammates.

He did play well, but you could predict with 100% surety before the match that he won’t do anything that will change the outcome of the match.

    and there lies the problem.

Played well? It was a 6/10 at very best.

Yeah, lost count of how many times he was in open space and waving for the ball and not seen. Emery seems to have drilled the team to look up the wing they are closest to and then if that's not on just go backwards.

He’s a creator and facilitator who picks defenses apart and sets up chances for others. He’s never been the player you describe, even at the peak of his powers when he was winning the league with Real Madrid and the WC with the German NT. The fact that he doesn’t do these things has nothing to do with his performance or impact.

We have players who can do those things, Pepe and Willock come to mind. There are only a handful of players in the world that can do it consistently and they are out of our price range.

He is a dead footballer. He was finished about 4 years ago and is not good enough to play for any top team at the moment. He is just not relevant anymore.

Yes he has his strengths, but those strengths are very easy to negate. He was an elite player from 2009 to 2013, but he has been found out since.

there is no room for players like him in contemporary football. We need to replace him with a more direct CAM who is more than a creator and facilitator.

I would happily take someone like Maddison over him, regardless of how much Özil fans clamor over his talent and vision and finesse and all the other stuff that seems to have no impact on the game

he has to do far less than anyone in the squad for the fans to think that he has had a good game.

We play better with him on the pitch, without him even having had time to setttle in and gain match sharpness. He’s the best option we have at the moment, and it’s not even close. I don’t think anyone is opposed to upgrading at CAM, but we aren’t in a transfer window and even if we were we have more urgent needs at CB and CM. Not playing him this season has likely cost us any chance at the top 4 and Emery any chance of keeping his job.

We are bollocks so no wonder we look good with him. He is just less bollocks, but he is bollocks nonetheless. I am focusing on what we need to do in the long run tbf. He has to go because he is a liability most of the time.

Arsenal fans have been criticising Özil critics for 6 years. The end result is still zero. Keep up the criticism while Özil keeps putting in wank performances.
