That's an interesting take, can see that being the case. Mourinho became so paranoid after his spell at Madrid, when he was constantly being undermined and it showed at Chelsea/United when he was suspicious of everyone around him.

But imagine the irony of losing a game of chicken and blinking before Mesut....

Not convinced how much this even has to do with Emery.

Since the Wenger exit announcement he has missed getting on 15 games you would expect him to feature in. Maybe they are all genuine injury / illness / tactical reasons.

Özil has been rated by all the managers he has been working with, and suddenly a tactical genius who can't win a single first half doesn't need him?

Interesting.

Apart from that whole business with Real Madrid.

Apart from that whole business with the German national side

Interesting.

Wow...So Ivan sanctioned it? Who else if not Wenger?

A 350k deal for a 30 year old player accepting mediocrity.

Time dust off the Özil (Out) thread...?

Média will have a field day farming this for clicks every time he doesn't start.

If he had a decent season or Iwobi and Mhki were playing at a better/consistent level to justify his exclusion, we could at least get someone interested who would take most of the wages of our hands.

As of now this is beggars choosers territory.

We couldn't lose him after the Alexis fiasco. It's the same way to run the club even after Wenger, look at the Ramsey deal.

It's us trying to sell Alexis to city at the last day of the transfer window all over again.

Gazidis' last hurrah.

I have to hand it to the media, they've done a fantastic job turning Arsenal fans against Özil. Goals against United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Sp**s. Assists against all of them as well to boot.

"He's not a big game player".

If Özil isn't a big game player, then who in our team is?

Away date is shocking. 3 months and counting, when he played away last time.

It's a bit misleading, he has played in 5 of the 8 away games so far.. 1 of the games he didn't play for tactical reasons(was on the bench, but Emery didn't use him) and he missed 2 because of injuries/illness.. He played vs Southampton last pl game too..

11/26 sounds worse than it really is too.. He has played in 11/17 pl games.. Missed out on Europa league and Carabao games as expected..

One training ground source said: “Every player has bought into the manager’s ideas so far, except Mesut.

That's pretty damning.

If he isn't going to get played we may as well cut our losses, even if we have to stump up £150k toward his wages we still save £200k and we can get someone else in who is going to play.

Emery is not at fault for dishing out a stupidly high contract and if Özil doesnt suit his tactical/philosophical idea's then he is doing the right thing by trying to get rid rather than shoe horning him into the side.

Players fall out with managers all the time, if Özil wasn't our top earner this wouldn't even be a big deal, and the fact he is our top earner isn't even Emery's fault.

I don't mind if Emery doesn't like Özil for tactical reasons or whatever. He's the manager and we've lost big players before. I personally think we're going to run into problems trying to keep both Lacazette and Aubemyang happy unless we plan to play two up top but that's for a different thread.

Its the revisionism surrounding Özil that grinds my gears with fans understating his contribution to the club or just downright ignoring how good he has been for us at times.

I'll be honest, outside of Aaron Ramsey, Koscielny and perhaps Cazorla, there isn't a single player out there who has done more for Arsenal Football Club, than Mesut Özil.

It also beggars belief why far inferior players like Xhaka, Iwobi, Cech and Mustafi are defended to the hilt while Özil is criticized to hell and back.

Oh just realised it's Miguel Delaney .
 He's a parody of himself at this point but the fact that there's a quote in there leads me to believe that he might have been briefed on this. Logically it makes sense, if you're Emery or the club you'd want a story like this out in the open to insulate yourself from criticism and shift the blame onto the player.

Arsenal Quotes

This is a big moment of happiness...we waited a long time for this and the happiness is linked sometimes with the suffering, and the time that you have to wait....this was more important than all the other (trophies) we have twice won the double, but were not under pressure then like we were today.
