Should being good off the pitch count in team selection?

For the whole of Wenger's reign, there have been some absolutely terrible players who are apparently included in the squad for their abilities "in the dressing room" and off the pitch. I'm talking Eboue, Arteta, Mertersacker, Flamini and the likes. While they may be motivators off the pitch, should that be enough for a place in the squad, considering these players leave us massively exposed on the pitch, and the fact that our best players of the Wenger years have been reportedly huge a holes?

Every dressing room needs these types of players BUT we carry far too many of them.

Arsenal Quotes

Don’t be scared to be ambitious. It’s not a humiliation to have a high target and to fail. For me, the real humiliation is to have a target and not to give everything to reach it.
