We are the 6th richest club in the world, our major shareholders are ranked number one and three on the owners rich list,we have a rumoured transfer budget of 150m, we have in excess of 200m in the bank and a host of valuable assets at our disposal that we can turn easily into cash.

If it came down to a bidding war,and I don't think it will, at what point do you think we cannot compete any day of the week? Unless our negotiators keep Holy the Sabbath then we can compete any day of the week if we choose to.

I am not as optimistic as you. I hope you are right but I have no confidence whatsoever Arsène and the club would be willing to get into one.

Carlito has this 'everything I say is right' attitude some times. Just leave him be.

People like to act like we don't know we have a slim chance at signing him. It's getting annoying now.

Actually, reading through this thread, one would not think we have just a slim chance. For some here, it is almost a logical conclusion that we will get Mbappe. Sorry, I can't join the chorus. ;)

In the past I'd have been sceptical. But last summer* we nearly spent 100m without any major out goings so funds are there. Rumour has it we have more money to spend on transfers and can sell players as well so a bidding war shouldn't scare us like before when we had a severe financial handicap.

I also think what happened with Wenger and Kroenke absolutely backing him changes things. Throw in the huge profit Kroenke turned down to keep the club makes me think on and off the field the dynamics have changed.

* last summer oddly enough I think Gabriel and Mertesacker getting injured ruined our transfer business. We had to stomp up a lot of money on a position we never intended to spend it on. This summer we have more depth than ever so we shouldn't be caught off guard with freak injuries. We shouldn't have to worry about keeping the powder dry for what if moments.

Hope your assessment is right and that is fully the case with Arsène and Kroenke. Count me in the skeptical camp though. Won't get caught in any euphoria.

I'm good with Laca and Lemar. I'm over this. If he chooses us, then awesome. If not.... Whatever.

Exactly. It's still on the cards as a separate deal if he chooses us, if not we've still been proactive in the market and signed three top top players. All at good ages and ready to go!

Rock up into next season with Kolasinac and Bellerin/Ox as wing backs and then the attacking options of -

Lemar, Welbeck, Walcott, Özil, Lacazette, Giroud, Alexis.

Bloody marvellous! Don't think OG will leave unless Mbappe is signed to be honest.

Does bidding wars even happen these days. Its player who chose club.

These two are not mutually exclusive. In the end, of course, the players decides if he signs for a club or not and clubs don't generally submit a formal bid if there is indication that the player is not willing to join them. However, players are often open to a move to multiple clubs and when this is the case, only the club that offers the best deal for the selling club gets the green light to start negotiations with the player. While in these cases only one formal bid may often have been submitted, in principle the move is an outcome of a so called bidding war.

Thou shalt not work on the sabbath.

Bob is saying we can compete any day of the week unless our negotiators obey the above rule.

Bob was trying to be clever. Dont be like bob.:D
Oh I understand the reference as I teach World Religions. I think i read too much into the post. Thought there was some weird anti-Semitism. Betting I'm wrong.

Lemar and Lacazette before pre season training begins and before the Q&A.

Özil and Alexis before the summer tour.

Mbappe before the end of the window.

Arsenal Quotes

When I am asked why I stayed at Arsenal so long.. my answer is simple; I never wanted to be anywhere else. I could have earned a lot more elsewhere, but that wouldn't compensate for all the good years at Highbury.
