I do like reading around reddit as it gives a good view of how fans that see a manager day in and day out feel. Here's some excerpts from Porto/Primeira Liga fans:

"he isn't suited for portugal, here everyone parks the bus, you need to play desperately to force a goal, his tactics were based on dominating enemy team and playing in their defensive midfielder while retaining ball possession, if you do this the enemy team will be worn out fast and won't have a chance to attack and you won't lose... except in portugal the enemy team players didnt even pressure or get worn out, they were happy with a draw so they just sit 11 players behind the boal line and let porto do what they wanted with the ball, in a proper league where teams play good football such as yours that type of tactic is much more effective"

"he isn't bad... his gamestyle is actually PERFECT for a good competitive league like england's. but in portugal where only 3 or 4 teams don't park the bus, it's completely useless

this is why our teams suck in europe, it's all about the mentality and a gamestyle like nes' which isn't based on bruteforcing a goal through continuous vertical attacks will never win anything in portugal"

"Its really hard for me to like a manager that defends with a 1 goal lead against bottom table teams, which is what he used to do."

Here is some worrying stuff from Valencia fans when he left:

"Extremely poor performances. Valencia spent over €100m on transfers yet they have an uninspired style of play and get horrible results."

"FINALLY! Valencia matches will be watchable again!"

"I'm just using today's game as a reference, we had zero shots on target, zero shots, zero corners whereas Sevilla has 15 shots, 5 shots on target and 17 corners. It's not that bad, huh?"

The people who watched him every week don’t rate him. Not even better than Emery.

The Porto stuff worries me as well, under Wenger most teams parked the bus and I’m sure it’d be the same here.

Seems like a clear pattern with Wolves why he does well against big teams and that’s because he’s happy to use the many talented players he has on the counter.

They failed to beat Huddersfield twice and I’ve seen them look very unconvincing in games against “worse” opposition. If it’s honestly between him and Allegri it’s a no brainer imo.

I can't deny the comments aren't exactly encouraging, though I suppose they won't be at the end of most tenures.

What I'll say is the r/wolves don't really want him to go so that's a good sign there and it's more than possible that he's evolved since Porto and Valencia.

Plus his win % is solid at pretty much every club he's been at (relative of course).

I am sure Poch is our no.1 target. It would bring Raul and the board so much needed love from the fans, but it seams almost impossible to make it happen.
maybe 5% of a chance since everything is possible in the world of money, but...
Not even thinking about it, just a feeling board would kill 3 flies with one hit there, and they will at least ask if there is any chance

That is his major weakness, he doesn't have an effective plan to break down teams that are happy to sit in and take the draw.

You would hope he improved on that this season but it seems he still can't overcome this hurdle. Wolves drew with Man Utd, beat City away, drew with Leicester away yet couldn't beat Soton, Braga and Burnley all at home. Same pattern as like season, they collect more points when they are the underdogs.

Feel its a bit harsh to judge him too much on any early negatives as still only 45 now & was playing professionally up to 2010. Its not like a Mourinho or Villas Boas that coached from early 20s. Everything suggests he is developing as a manager well on the upward curve.

Rio Ave (2012–2014)
Valencia (2014–2015)
Porto (2016–2017)
Wolves (2017– )

I'd say we see signs of both that and how he's iterated a fair bit on earlier issues. He does tend to defend 1 goal leads too much and he has had problems against park the bus teams. More recently be's been more attack minded but we haven't got the finishing power we'd like.

Can't judge him on earlier this season as that was about saving energy given our tiny squad and glut of games. We genuinely only have 12-13 genuine first team players.

We've had games with too few shots but again we find that he changes his tactics and seems to learn from when mistakes are made, which is a good sign.

Yeah, their track record mimic Mourinho's...I get that you don't think Mourinho would have been the right man, but come on... that comparison is beyond weak.

Look, Mourinho and his boring football philosophy is as outdated as Wenger was during his last years at Arsenal. He is also a toxic sociopath. I genuinely think he is at the right place now, a disgusting manager at a disgusting club.

I get that's your opinion. What I took issue with is comparing Mourinho to Pardew and Pulis footballingwise, but it's ok. Neither of those will probably manage us. God knows who will...

A player's true character is in how he plays and not in his social life. You can hide your real personality in your social life, You cannot on the field.
