The Spaniard, understood to have lost some of the dressing room, wanted to give his players a psychological break following their run of one victory in their last eight games.

But the decision was met with surprise by some members of the club’s footballing operation.

Emery is under no illusions that his job is seriously under threat, yet felt time off was more beneficial than work on the training pitch.

The mood at the club’s London Colney HQ has been described as ‘fatalistic’ by one source.

There is now a sense that it’s a matter of when, not if, Emery is sacked — with Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo a strong contender to replace him.

Is it possible he plays a defensive, counter attacking style to suit a mid-table (who are punching well above their weight) team who regularly have to play top quality opposition?

If he were in control of a top quality team (which arsenal are in potential only at this point), could he not he adjust his style again to suit the players he has- ie more possession, more attack etc?

Or is that just the way he rolls?

As far as I could tell he sets up his team same way regardless who they are playing. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing to do.

Arsenal Quotes

When you start supporting a football club, you don’t support it because of the trophies, or a player, or history, you support it because you found yourself somewhere there; found a place where you belong.
