Yeah you're absolutely gassing them up. "Demolishing" Madrid while ignoring the ref masterclass in the first leg, Stones won the PL 5 times when this is the first title he's ever made a difference for (and it's not even at CB) etc. They looked nervy as **** today for sure, but this City team also completely demolished Real Madrid.
Not really gassing up anyone, said time and time again that the whole debate about past vs. present for me isn't really about the top teams. But at the same time, I think many on here - including yourself - have a tendency to completely **** on almost any modern defender. if you actually sit down and watch some full matches from those early 2000s teams, you'd be shocked by how many mistakes they make, on top of looking clumsy as **** on the ball.
John Stones is a top CB and it up there among the best English CBs ever. Dude is very good defensively and levels above any other English CB in history on the ball, has won the PL 5 times, 2 FA cups, got to the Euros final as a starter for a team lauded for their defense and has now also won the CL.
I'm not one for nostalgia I call plenty of players in the past ****, I recognise the difference in athleticism and also see the rose tinted colours with which some look at the teams of the past. However I also recognise this counter trend that many like a reflex assume that everything today is better when there's no reason it would be. It's not just in football btw this kinda divide exists elsewhere too.
Pointless debate though keep rating who you rate.
