It's another Away Friendlies lads. Whilst the squad still in Austria.

The game against Gençlerbirliği S.K was great to watch and seeing how Eduardo and Sagna complete their debuts with quite convincing potentialities, and should the new signings keep this up and improving along the way, we may win something by the end of May 2008. Albeit they performed well against a Turkish side.

but, these guys are no muppets to deal with. F.C Red Bull Salzburg, despite the fact that they are in Austrian league. They are currently the reigning Champions of Austrian Bundesliga.

Interesting Fact files on F.C Salzburg - Courtesy of Arsenal.com

* FC Red Bull Salzburg was founded on September 13, 1933, as SV Austria Salzburg. In 1978, the name was changed to SV Casino Salzburg and in 1997 to SV Wüstenrot Salzburg.

* In a former guise as SV Casino Salzburg the club won the national title three times, in 1994, 1995 and 1997.

* It was during this period that the club reached their only European final. SV Casino Salzburg lost 2-0 on aggregate to Inter Milan in the 1994 UEFA Cup Final. Interestingly, the Inter Milan line-up contained former Gunner Dennis Bergkamp.

* On April 6, 2005, the soft drink manufacturer Red Bull bought the club and renamed them as FC Red Bull Salzburg.

* Fans opposed to the takeover, the "Violet-Whites", formed a new club and re-registering the club's original name, 'SV Austria Salzburg' and their traditional colours of violet and white.

* Salzburg pulled off something of a transfer coup in May 2006 by hiring veteran coach Giovanni Trapattoni as manager and Germany legend Lothar Matthäus as his assistant. Matthäus parted company with the club before the start of the 2007/08 season.

* Salzburg are the reigning Austrian Bundesliga champions. The club won the title with five games to spare and finished 19 points ahead of runners-up SV Josko Fenster Ried.

* Former Arsenal goalkeeper Alex Manninger was born in Salzburg and played at youth level for SV Austria Salzburg during his early career.

* Arsenal's visit will be the official opening game of Salzburg's brand new 30,000 capacity 'Bulls Arena' ground.

* FC Red Bull Salzburg have already played two league games of their 2007/08 season, beating Enjo SCR Altach 4-1 at home before losing 1-0 away to SV Pasching. Salzburg currently sit at the top of the Austrian Bundesliga.

The Starting squad for the Arsenal may be the same as the ones who started in the Gençlerbirliği S.K

Multiple substitutions anyone? I really hope not, Song in Central Defense is suicidal. No offense to the kid though. He was afterall completely out of place.

No need there mate. I really hope we see more of Eduardo and our senior players though as preparations for the Emirates cup. Really looking forward to a strong lineup. 2-0 to us I reckon with RvP getting both.

That's what I thought too. If we were to wear our home kit , it will still clash with them, and the same goes if we wear the white away.

Think we're going to wear the 3rd kit for this one.

Would like to see this line-up:
------------------Fabianski-------------------
--Sagna--Toure(c)--Djourou--Clichy--
--Walcott--Fabregas--Diaby--Eduardo--
--------------v.Persie--Adebayor-------------
It doesn't look like we're going to get a winger so i would like to see how Eduardo plays there as he drifted wide left in the last game.

Ah yep, Must have missed that one. Makes sense though, Salzburg is pretty big (new to be frank) around.

I think Lehmann and Gallas should get some playing time. I particularly would like to see Toure and Gallas play together for at least 45 minutes, because this will probably be our main central defence during the season. I don't see any point in continuing with Song, because even if Wenger considered this position for him for a while, he has clearly shown that we cannot risk him there in important games. Rosicky should get 45 minutes as well, because he almost had no chance to touch the ball in the last game.

Wow- That's a very well put together opening post. Thanks for going to all that effort Nadz!

I've said it before in other threads, and I'll say it again: thank f*cking god we've got some matches to follow again (even if they are just friendlies). I don't care who plays, for how long, or in what position- I'm just so happy to put all the negatives behind us, and roll on with the new.

...Now bring on the pre-season injuries! (Kidding! Kidding! No Jinx!..)

Cheers lads. Took me an hour! To triple check the time schedule! Heh heh. I joke I joke.

But Yes, I have double checked the time though. Bloody time zones. And Live coverage is supposedly confirmed in Setanta Sports 1 and ATVO. I might see it, I got 24 hours standby the day after that though. I often wonder why don't they just shoot me straight, it'll save time. I rather have Quick and painful than slow and painful.

anyway. Back to the topic. I agree though, think Lehmann and Gallas should be given some game time. I know Gilberto is given 3 weeks off, how long will he be out for? I remember somewhere Arsène mention he may not be back even when the Premiership starts.

pfft. Yeah right it's the bloody Arsenal.com Website that got me in the hot water in the first place. At one part of the site it says 7pm(CET) and in the match menu it didn't even say (CET), I figured it was 7pm Local UK time.

Like I said bloody freaking time zones. :D

Yeah he did. Signed for Salzburg in May 2006, Impressive of a manager if you asked me despite the much to say controversies and some flaws here and there, but after being out from tactician games for a few months and suddenly in his first season he won the Austrian Bundesliga. Winning atleast a trophy or two in season he manage a club for.

Check out his Managerial Honours from Wiki.

Like I said, This is NOT going to be an easy game imo.

I don't think so, they had a friendly at home with the 3rd place team from the romanian League I and only managed to get a draw, maybe they'll be more fired up since they're playing against a bigger name but I think it's still the same type of friendly as the previous ones.

Arsenal Quotes

When I arrived, an Arsenal share was worth £800; it subsequently rose continuously in value and by the time I left it stood at £17,000.
