I don't want to get on Emery's back this early, but this is clearly not clicking as of yet. The possession is still stale, defense and press still disorganized, offense still reliant on individual moments.
There's players in there who have worked out for different managers at domestic and intl level without problems: Sokratis, Aubameyang, Mkhitaryan, Özil, Ramsey, Xhaka, Cech, Lichtsteiner, Lacazette...There's undeniable quality in there, yet they can't seem to get a coherent system onto the pitch. Not under Wenger, not under Emery - while Warnock can get undeniably lesser players to exercise a coherent press at Cardiff.
I really cannot put my finger on it. Is this squad so unbalanced and randomly bough together that they just can't work together? But other managers have come into unbalanced squads, even during seasons, and made them work to some extent until they could buy/sell.
A team can attack for too long. The most opportune time for scoring is immediately after repelling an attack, because opponents are then strung out in the wrong half of the field. All the men are expected to play to plan, but not so as to stifle individuality
