Aoura is pure fantasy, Lyon are notoriously difficult to negotiate with and would probably be 70mil plus.

There seems to be a good chance that we will sign 2 midfielders. Torreria and Guendouzi are seemingly up for sale and midfield was a weakness last year. As it stands, Ceballos is a Real Madrid player.

It’s both if we’re serious about getting top 4 but for the sake of the argument it’s Partey. Why? Firstly, I’m picking stability over creativity. Our midfield crumpled whenever Xhaka wasn’t available and he’s midtable quality. Xhaka was the only midfielder we had with size, experience, positioning, and would take responsibility in build up play. So obviously if you had the opportunity to upgrade on that you do.

Secondly, the shape. It’s clear Arteta wants a back 4. From his time under Pep and media reports he wants 2 attacking 8’s and a lone 6 in a 433. For that to happen you need a dynamic 6 who can distribute, tackle, intercept and be good under pressure. City did that with Fernandinho, they looked for a replacement in Rodrigo, who is more Xhaka like and they have struggled big time. Why? Lack of dynamism and mobility to cover ground. We need more of a Partey than a Xhaka. Ideally this is the final season of Xhaka as a starter imo.

Finally, despite what people think we have creative players at the club. Özil, Willian, Pepe, Lacazette, Cellabos, ESR and Saka are creative players, maybe none of them are considered exceptional but they are creative players. The problem was always fitting them in in a stable midfield. In a 433 you can fit at least 2 of them in central positions which is where they want to be. This is more likely to be achieved with a Partey at the base.

Sign our main targets in the 7 weeks left of the window or get players in for the sake of it because the season starts in 2 weeks?

Arteta probably thinks we have enough for the first 4 games of the season up until the window closes.
