Just had a look and unfortunately Besiktas are well off the CL places this season, meaning a Cedric vs. Vinicius Jr battle seems unlikely for next season. He will be on hand to pocket Wilf soon though 👀

Why can't we sell any player for a decent amount of money?
I get it that Cedric won't go for money, since he is absolute dogsh*te.

The only good sell we made was Balogun ffs...

And why do we always attract clubs from Turkey or Italy. These morrons don't have any cash ffs.

Why can't we sell like Chelsea in the BPL. They made massive money on their own youth like Abraham, Tomori, Hudson Odoi, Guehi, Livramento etc... Ffs

All those players (jury out on Hudson Odoi, but he had a big reputation) have easily justified those fees subsequently. Who have we sold that has justified any kind of fee? That Chelsea youth team was dominant, same as city in recent years, which is why they get good fees. Ours have been so so, with a the only players really worth a fig either still in the squad or sold for decent fees like WIllock, Iwobi & Balogun. We haven't lost any gems on the cheap since Gnabry & Bennacer.

Since pure profit is all the rage on AM, we'll be glad to know that this deal would be pure profit as well

Only if profit in this case entails getting rid of a parasitic dog-watcher who conned the club into thinking he's an actual football player.

Not a gem, but we didn't sell AMN, while he could be a 20+ player if sold on time.
Also we sold some players for peanuts like Xhaka (15 million, while he performed), Pepe for free, Guendouzi for 11 million, Torreira for 6 million, Leno for less then 4 million, Mavropanos for 3,2 million, Lacazette and Bellerin on a free, Auba on a free, Chambers on a free, Mari for less then 5 million, Ramsey & Monreal almost for free, Martinez for 17 million, Sagna on a free.

And yes. Some of these were free because of their wages like Pepe, Laca, Auba & probably Bellerin.

But its just a shame Edu can't sell players (and the previous guy)...

How can you sell Leno for like 4 million? Or Martinez for 17 million, while we are probably gonna buy a Spanish dwarf for 20+ million???

I don't think anyone disputes we sold badly, and have done for about 10 years - late Arsène was terrible at it too, bar the Ox (ah the wonderful performance he put in at Anfield a few days before he moved).

Re AMN - its been a real shame where his career has gone. When we got that bid, he was pretty regularly featuring, was in the England squad, and genuinely looked a useful squad player who could fill in multiple roles. Its genuinely surprising how bad his loan spells were and everything has gone bad for everyone at Lyon. I retrospect not selling him was a mistake, but where his career was at the time, it was a lowball offer.

Xhaka had a year left and one place he was willing to go, one place interested and willing to pay his wages. If it wasn't for the specifics of his situation, we would have just kept him. We sold under value but I give the club a pass on this one.

Pepe should have been sold MUCH earlier. The real mistake was taking too long to give up on him. THat said his wages made it hard. If we'd sold early, we might have got a fee, but I guess the club didn't want to just give up. His terrible loan spell last year finished the value tank

Guendouzi had tanked his own value by being a prick. Even after 2 years of being a regular in Marseilles they only got 15m for him.

Torreira - if its only clubs in Turkey that want you, its not going to be a big fee.

Leno was another 1 place and 1 place only job, and at least Fulham have earnt the add ons! Undervalued.

Mavrapanos was undervalued, but we had a full squad, he was overage re exemption, and had no suitors. I hope we got a decent sell on as rumoured. That was more of a timing thing, but yes a poor deal.

No one was giving us any money for Laca, same with Auba as Chelsea discovered. Bellerin was finished sadly. Chambers can't even get on the bench for Villa. Mari we got almost all our money back. Ramsey's agent dicked us about and then demanded 300k p/w for a player who missed 3 months a season. Letting him go was the right call, much as I loved the player. Monreal was on a retirement gig.

Martinez had like 9 top flight games at the time and wouldn't renew his deal. Had to sell and got a decent fee for where he was at. Perhaps we shouldn't have sold him at all, but that is another point!

Sagna! How far back are we going?

The common denominators are two fold.

1) for the past 10 years we have nearly ALWAYS (except Balogun/Willock/Iwobi/Martinez) sold players later than we should in terms of getting good value. That's true under 3 managers and 3 different DoF figures. Its the biggest thing we need to change as a club. The last 5 years of Wenger he missed out on probably 250m worth of value in terms of missed sales. The 5 years since its probably not that far off that.

2) The players we parted with were mostly not that good by the time we parted with them. Who has been a significant success since they left? Xhaka, Martinez, Leno and Mavrapanos. All slightly undersold but not vast sums of money away from their value at the time. 2 of them we had decent add-ons for. Everyone else, bar the odd decent month, has done largely F-all since, and at best have had marginal increases in value.

Ultimately the club has been terrible at selling for years, but at least is starting to cash in the hale enders it thinks won't make it. This needs to change. Bar the Havertz deal as things stand, and Jorginho nearly everyone in our squad will generate a profit or break even if we sell them at this point. The main thing is bar the expiring older reserves, all out squad currently have significant market value, so we should get decent fees if we move them on. Far better than the squad Emery/Arteta inherited with a lot of guys whose wages/perfermance levels made them valueless.

We've spent a lot of money for sure, but apparently we've increased our squad value by more than we've spent. THe proof as always will be in the outcome, but it should get easier for the club to get better at selling. And of course, people always value your players more when the squad they are part of is operating at a high level. Of course the post Covid market has made selling overseas difficult, so we've got to keep a cap on wages for the non first 15 type guys. Also makes it vital to bring through some more of the kids who might actually make it over the next 2-3 years.

Arsenal Quotes

When you start supporting a football club, you don’t support it because of the trophies, or a player, or history, you support it because you found yourself somewhere there; found a place where you belong.
