Al...7

Sagna...8...battled very hard
Gallas...8...immense start to the season
TV...8...like Gallas. Superb challenge in first half.
Clichy...7...getting there.

Cesc..8...back to his best. Jaded late on but the lad is top class.
Song...8...another improved display.
Denilson...6...weak link in the midfield tonight. One plus is his engine.

Bendtner...7...another good shift. Never gave ball away and worked hard.
RVP...5...sloppy as hell tonight. We really need some pace up top.
Arsh...5...below par first two games.

Diaby..5...nice build up for goal but many mistakes reminiscent of last year.

Almunia - 6 - Woeful distribution

Sagna - 7 - Solid if unspectacular
Gallas - 8 - Immense
Vermaelen - 8 - Beast MOTM
Clichy - 7 - Solid if unspectacular.

Song - 8 - Great!
Denilson - 7 - Worked hard, composed, made himself available. Did a good job covering up loose ends.
Fabregas - 7.5 - Worked really, really hard. Controlled the game and 'made' a goal. Not his best going forward but couldn't ask for much more

Arshavin - 5 - Disappointing.
van Persie - 5.5 - Had a difficult evening but made some good runs. Expect a lot better
Bendtner - 6 - Worked hard, provided an outlet, tracked back.

Diaby - N/a - Positive impact but didn't have much more to do except see out the game.

The front three were very disappointing in attack but credit to Celtic - they made it hard for us.

Denilson: 4
Conclusion - Solid defence won us the game.

A 4 from Denilson seems very unfair, I think. Some of his brave defensive actions should have garnered him a bit more than that.

I would agree with you though that a solid defence won us the game, as well as your other ratings.

Indeed. We have very little explosiveness up front. I feel van Persie is not fast enough to be the focal point of our attacks.

Someone put parts of Vermaelen's face on that picture, and we can officially christen him as The Verminator.

I thought Denilson was very good today, and I would have given him nothing less than a 7.

Almunia - 7 (Did well overall, nothing here nor there)
Sagna - 7 (Not quite there yet)
Gallas - 8.5 (Looks very good so far, very good)
Vermaelen - 9 MOTM! (Hasta la vista, Touré!)
Clichy - 7 (Did good, will do better)
Song - 8.5 (Strong, hardworking and with a killer hairdo. Sagna, take note!)
Denilson - 7 (Above average, nothing spectacular)
Cesc - 8 (Awesome workrate, but passing was off at times by his standards)
Arshavin - 6 (Poor movement, but he will get there)
van Persie - 6 (Slowed us down, poor decisionmaking)
Bendtner - 7 (Hard worker, a little lacking in end product though)

Diaby - 6 (The usual highs and lows)

It's understandable that Wenger didn't wanted to risk Eduardo against those thugs, but this game illustrated the need of options up front. Bendtner and van Persie are not, have not been and will never be a good combination. Too static in the decisive moments, not clinical enough and drops too deep. Of the two Bendtner had a better game for the second time in a row (although his performance was subpar in the second half). I wouldn't start with Robin up front in the next game.

Great win otherwise, I thought. Impressive by all the hard work that Arshavin and Denilson did in both ends of the field. Celtic tried to kick us off the field but Song and Vermaelen stood up magnificently. The latter in particular perhaps. I'm quickly falling in love with Vermaelen. He's a f****g terminator. Born without mercy.
Completely agree with everything you wrote and all your ratings. The team performance was not sharp at all. But I was very happy with our aggression and hard work.

RVP was downright awful. One of his worst performances ever. I really expected him to be replaced at the half because I thought that he might be injured.

The bias against Arshavin has already started...

He was at least as good as Bendtner, who wasn't involved at all, not 2 ratings below him.

Arshavin defended very well, and took more part in our passing game than Bendtner. He wasn't good, but to rate him down while Bendtner gets away with such a high rating, it's bias.

Don't put your expactations higher because he is a better player, all players are first teamers and that's what matters.

Does Cesc, Song, and Denilson seem a lot faster this season? Maybe I'm just remembering them from the end of last season where they were fatigued, but they seem to be much faster this season.

I've never been a fan of Song, but the first 2 games of this season has him proving me wrong. Hope his fine form continues. Can't decide if he or Vermaelen should be the MOTM.
