I'd offer him out and see if any of the big clubs with better scouts than ours is interested, if they are then keep him, if not, sell him to Southampton. Genius

cant see why we dont get him to sign & then loan him to brentford for a season to see how he does. we can match any wages brentford offer easily & Balogun gets first team football & we get to see hwo good he is. still think arteta will get involved & get Balogun to sign.

Balogun wants first team assurances at Arsenal that he isn't gonna get at this point. I wouldn't rule out a U-turn but I don't see where he's gonna get those reassurances from when he has at least 2 other young, similarly promising CFs to compete with for time. He holds some of the leverage here because he has a year left on his deal.

Arteta may yet be a factor in getting him to stay but he'd have to run some serious game on him. Balogun knows he has an easier pathway to regular first team football opportunities if he leaves Arsenal, regardless of how talented he is.

The only other way to ensure he stays would be to offload one or two strikers - some combo of Lacazette, TJJ and Nketiah. That won't happen.

I'd definitely offload Lacazette. Arsenal could prob give Balogun gametime now we made Europa & the league cup. Dont think anyone should be guaranteed a first team place but you could easily map out a development route for him by saying sign a contract we'll find you a season long loan with first team football & then reassess next year if he's ready or send him on another loan?

The way we utilise loan system really needs reviewing, when was our last successful youth loaning out? Wilshere at Bolton? Some strange ones in between like Gnabry to long ball WBA, ESR to red bull where he was never likely to play etc

We should be in no rush to sell him, pre-season is pretty much non existent this summer but give him as many minutes in whatever games we have to see how he fairs and if hes upto a promotion minutes wise in the first team.

If not, sell him late in the window, any club interested will still be around.

Shame pre-season is so short this summer for the club and player.

Ideally, we'd give him a new deal and charge clubs a small loan fee for next year, but this sounds like a young player who is sure about his ability and wants to be starting next year.

£8m would be a great deal for the club. He may well be a good player, but we already have a U21 centre forward in the first team squad, and we will likely be signing another youngish centre forward in the next year or so.

Bring in Edouard and we are sorted at centre forward for a decade.

The loan system at Arsenal has been completely revamped with aspecialist loan manager in place and clubs having to make detailed pitches to take players on loan.

FWIW I think ESR would have played more at RBL had he not been injured.

I'm sure Arsenal mapped out a development route for Balogun, but he wants more now, and every other kid wants to be the new Sancho at the mo.

Arsenal Quotes

Thierry Henry was very quick at analysing everything that was going on and how he needed to react. This intelligence, this capacity to evaluate, understand and question oneself, is also the mark of great players... For everyone, for the fans and for us, he symbolised the golden age of Arsenal.
