Senderos-Toure might work. Senderos is an aerial specialist, except against Drogba, and on the ground, lacking. Although I'm not a fan of Senderos', if Toure covers his weaknesses, it could work.

Anyway, seems like Diaby's passing is still erratic as always. If he wants to step up, he needs to nail his simple passing. Against Chelsea in the CC final, that was good passing. But that was only one game I recall where his passing was good.

Denilson's long range passing is poor. Angle, length, height, none of it was good. I'd like for our team to keep to the ground, but sometimes we need to do a long ball, but it seems every time we do, we just give possession straight back to the opposition.

That includes long balls from the back. Eboue, Toure, Gallas this season and last have failed miserably when trying to do long balls. The ONLY man we can really pick out is Adebayor, if he's not on the pitch, we should always keep it on the ground, or else we're going to lose possession.

Acceptable from Sagna and Edu so far, too soon to tell, but some good signs.

Anyway, I think Flamini+Fabregas should be starting, not Diaby. Flamini's passing is ok and he's quite solid overall, tries to keep things simple and generally does the right thing. I hate not having presence or height or anything, but nothing really can be done.

We don't have any presence really, even the big players aren't exactly scary or aggressive. Carvalho, Terry, Drogba, Gerrard, Rooney, C.Ronaldo, Sissoko even, somewhat strike fear, for different reasons. They won't back out of a 50-50, one small mistake and you're done for, etc. None of our players really have that.

Anyway....hope for a good game this tournament. Still too early to say anything about this team, since we were missing some key players. I think our first team is good enough to compete for a top 4 place, but our squad players seriously need to step up.

Its the glaring problems that have plagued us since last season and don't seem to go away that are bothering me. I don't want Arsène to buy big, i just think a winger with attributes we need for back up because our first 11 is very good in my opinion will do no harm now that Ljungberg has left and Reyes will leave.
Some fans are predicting doom and gloom, i am annoyed because i think we are nearly there. I don't mind if we sell Gallas too, i see Toure and Senderos as an ideal pairing, they really work very well and we didn't exactly keep 10 straight clean sheets in Europe through pure luck.
Agree with that except the part about a back up winger. Imo that simply won't improve us a lot unless the said winger is good enough to challenge both rosicky and helb for a starting place. Going for a backup winger would mean compromising on quality and that's the last thing we need there.

Btw were you able to see the match ? How ? I don't think we can watch internet streams smoothly with the present state of broadband in our country.

Sid, i spoke of a back up winger as i don't see Wenger buying someone to replace either Hleb or Rosicky, but something is better than nothing, i'd rather see a winger play on the wings than see either Diaby or Denilson there because we got no one else in our squad. Eboue for me, won't cut it. I don't think it'll be a compromise on quality too. You can call Walcott a back up winger, he is just 18 but what we look in him are attributes and he has them all to play on the wings and be effective even though largely inconsistent. With him we will be frustrated over large spells during the 90 minutes but he has end product. I won't mind another left sided Walcott.

I didn't watch the game, got an impression from what was being said here though, its not that difficult when everyone is rambling about nothing having changed from last season :)
Also, for me speed of the connection isn't a problem its the limited download that is :(

Tell me, some fans expect him to be the next ronaldinho, from what i have seen he is a tough defender and we might need his qualities him some games.

For God's sake this place is driving me mad.

No, we didnt play well. So what it was a pre-season friendly.

Before the start of our unbeaten season in 2003, we lost to Peterbrough 1-0, drew with Barnet 0-0 and drew 1-1 with a Celtic side that Man U thumped 4-0 the week before. Reports eminating from those games suggested we were in for a tough season and had little chance of recapturing the Premiership title from Man U.
We all know what happened next. So come on, dont be so down beat.

Sagna looked great at full-back; strong as an ox, good in the air, and aggressive in the tackle. Reminds me of a certain Cameroonian we used to have playing there, only without the ridiculous concentration lapses that he was prone to, and a lot quicker to boot. But most importantly he looks like a winner, its bye-bye Eboue as far as I'm concerned.

Also cant believe the stick Eduardo Da Silva is getting. Are you people blind?
He has fantastic control, great accelaration and overall speed, amazing agility and low-centre of gravity, a sixth sense for taking up threatening positions (RvN style) and he could have scored 4 goals, if he had his match sharpness and fitness.

The even greater thing is he is not just a poacher, he is so much more.
Let me put that another way, he scored 54 goals last season for club and country and he isnt just a player who camps in the eighteen yard box and waits for a chance, ala Pipo Inzaghi.
He is an all-round good footballer, who will contribute for others, and involve himself in play. Now I see why he also had the highest number of assists in the Croatian League last season as well.

And you people are slagging him off because he missed a few chances. The only conclusion you should draw at this stage is that he was in the position to score a goal 4 or 5 times. Impressive to say the least.

Cant wait for the weekend :!: :) :!:

i just watched the highlights of the game and i dont understand where all this impending doom and gloom is coming from!?!

The result isnt important in games like this, its about getting 90 minutes under your belt, improving your fitness and trying to get your match sharpness up.

Eduardo looked very exciting to me, should have bagged a goal but at least he was getting into those positions in the box, which we never bloody had last season.

Anyway, these games mean nothing as there is nothing on the line so dont expect to see 100% commitment just yet. In front of us at the emriates cup there will be alot more motivation. Chin up.

I expect him to get loads and loads of abuse here whenever he isn't brilliant this season. Far too many posters here and incapable of admitting they got something wrong so if they don't like a signing when it happens they will always look for negatives in those players.

Ade is a great example of that ethos.

You simply cannot judge a player you have never seen before from two pre season games. I don't need to prove this point, logic does all the work for me.

For goodness sake people, it could be so much worse. Look at Leeds, seemingly on a never-ending downward spiral and currently without any goalkeeper.

Yet you complain when we lose a meaningless friendly against a team that is 'warmed up'. We are not match fit, they were. There were clearly positives to be taken from the game; as with all pre season friendlies the result is not important.

I completely agree with that mate. I am not going to judge the team until the Amsterdam tournament tbh, because by then we should be up to speed I believe.

Quite right.

You can tell that to both those who're writing him off, and those writing Eboue off in his favour.

As an aside, who's slating Eduardo? I don't think I've seen a single unbalanced, negative post about him yet.

Thanks M+D.

I cant wait for the games at the weekend. They will be ready and up for it.

Also the pitch they were playing on last night was not conjusive to a quick, intricate passing game.

P.S - thanks for the compliment in the favourite posters thread :eek:ops:

Guarenteed, this place wouldnt be the same without your informative posts. I'll return the compliment in the favourite poster thread soon.

Thats something we need to get over though. We won't be playing every game at the Emirates and there will be plenty of games where we travel away and have to play on bad surfaces. You can't blame the conditions when you know each and every season you will have to play 4 or 5 games in those conditions. Sheff Utd last season being a prime example of that.

DIdnt see the game, but two things stand out for me. Rosicky injured again! The boy cannot play more than two games in a row can he, doesnt bode well for the season.

And the second is Eboue on the wing. If this if Wenger's solution to perhaps our biggest deficiency to say I am disappointed in him is an understatement.

You're right about Rosicky, it;s very annoying because I think when he plays he looks a very good player, it's just he doesn't stay fit for long enough to be really effective over any period of time.

On another note, what did people make of Hleb's performance - I think he looked very sharp yesterday, and also more effective than usual, although obviously in friendly conditions it's easier to look effective I suppose. Also, he looked better on the left than he did on the right in my opinion, perhaps when Rosicky is injured, Hleb on the left, Walcott on the right seems a good option for us.

Another positive was Bendtner, I thought he linked up very well with Eduardo, he holds up play well and is a clever player. Much like at Birmingham last season, when he can be bothered he could be an excellent player for us, it's a question of what his attitude is like that will decide how well he does for us this season.

Eboue looked injured his groin in the first half. Strangely, 3 mins later, it's Rosicky got subbed for suspected injury.

Was I seeing things last night or was Eboue operating in the middle of the field quite high up? The guy looked very awkward there. He's a full-back. Sure, an attacking one, but not the answer to our winger dilemma. Even out-wide last night it just didn't seem right... he wasn't effective in the slightest. I suppose trial and error comes in handy pre-season. Let's hope Wenger sees it like we're seeing it.

Poor result last night on a whole. Disappointing really. Would've liked to have seen more from the attackers, they didn't really seem at the races. Tired and clueless if anything. Bendtner made a few good touches, big bloke aswell.

On a whole we seemed defensively sound except the goal but lacked a bit of drive going forward.

Anyway, it'll be exciting to see the team again this weekend and see what they've learnt from Austria. Let's hope for a few wins and positivity.

I don't trust Eboue anymore. Sometimes he dives fakes injury as much as he is a joker
