I don't understand how the second best club in a nation full of great defenders can have such an embarrassing back line.

It's probably about system.Think that Germans sides are very offensive and don't focus on some rock defence,it's just their style of play.Sometimes that cost them in CL,even that Bundesliga is only behind La Liga and EPL.
