100% agree. Aside from partey we dont have cm's with legs. Ndombele and sissoko are athletes and hojberg can move well. DC and xhaka are both so limited on speed so the current way we play suits those 2 players and the lack of pace is hidden.
I would love mikel to take the handbrake off. Match the 433 of united, none of this xhaka dropping into lcb. Take the game to them, auba should have a field day against that shambles of a defence. Utd are there for the taking

What if a team buys a player and he flops? Surely that will skew the results of that system. For example, us signing Pepe for £72m and him not putting anywhere near that amount of value towards the team (yet). Same with Maguire/Pogba/Di Maria at United, Torres/Morata/Kepa at Chelsea etc.
The signing of Pepe probably puts us above a team on squad cost but doesnt improve us anywhere near proportionally to that. This of course more of an issue with expensive players who dont work out.
Meanwhile, a team who scouted the right player and had a better system for doing so, buy a good player for the fraction of the price but enjoy a larger output from him.

Mustafi will play and do Mustafi things because they’ll target him - like we should target Shaw, but we’ll start Willian who hasn’t got the beating of a fullback under the age of 30.
