lehmann - 7
very solid, apart from one mistimed corner.

eboue - 5
needs to improve his final ball.

toure - 7
a bit sloppy in the first half, tremendous effort and heart in the 2nd. stood up and tried to get the team going.

djorou - 7
solid.

hoyte - 3
very poor performance and gives away a horrible penalty. caught out of position a number of times and doesn't contribute anything to the team going forward. clueless.

hleb - 8 MOM
i was stunned when wenger brought him off. sure, he gave the ball away a few times, but he was the engine and mind of the team today. he was the one who was able to create something going forward. he sent henry and van persie clean through a number of times and wasn't afraid to have a go at defenders. made things happen.

cesc - 6,5
a rather poor first half, in which the passing was unusually sloppy. a much better second half, but held on to the ball a bit too long.

gilberto - 7,5
a very solid performance. strong, covered lots of space and worked very hard throughout the entire match.

rosicky - 7,5
a very good game. good movement off the ball, good passing, made some nice runs, hussled the villa defenders and, like hleb, made things happen for us in the final third. surprised he was substituted.

rvp - 7
a good first half and started off well in the 2nd half too, but kind of drifted out of the match as he was pushed out on the right wing. unlucky not to score.

henry - 5
poor, indeed. missed 3 sitters. held on to the ball too long. wasted a few set pieces from dangerous positions. just down right rusty.

walcott - 6,5
lively. not afraid to have a go at the defenders and tried to make things happen.

0 for the entire team, it was awful to watch, there was nothing to be cheerful about.

if the team doesnt buck up their ideas then i worry greatly for this season, more so than last and that was painful enough thank you mr wenger.

Jens 7 - Solid game from him.

Eboue 5 - His passing is worse than Hoyte's sometimes. Needs sorting out.

Toure 7 - Solid.

Djourou 7 - Idem dito.

Hoyte 3 - To put it bluntly, he's crap. Caught out by the same pass over and over again, beaten by Sinclair over and over again, useless going forward. Is there anything he does well?

Hleb 8 - Our best player I thought, created lots of chances. Apprently Wenger thought not and subbed him for the clueless Adebayor. Well done.

Cesc 6 - Sloppy at times and bit off the pace. Still slipped Henry through beautifully.

Gilberto 7 - Good game from him, apart from a shocking pass at the end.

Rosicky 7 - Don't know why he didn't shoot 2 yards from goal but otherwise a constant threat.

RvP 7 - Our best striker. Should have scored his first second half chance, he was pushed for that header. Expect Adebayor back though.

Henry 4 - Terrible. Didn't do a single thing right. Why oh why did he play? Doesn't he realize he is costing us points? Apparently not.

Not going to bother with the subs.

Lehmann - 7 Fine, made a good save off Corradi's header, made me laugh by fighting with dickov.

eboue - 6 decent, some of his passes were off and i don't know if that was a shot or not but it was bad.

Toure - 7 Fine, almost scored.

Djouru - 7 didn't irritate me so was mostly fine.

Hoyte - 0 never play for arsenal again. maybe a 2 becuase he didn't **** up as much in the second half.

Hleb - 6 some of his passes were disgraceful, others were good and he almost got us a goal except he basically shot it on the lay back.

Cesc - 7 he was fine, probably played in henry about 50 times. not his best game but definitely decent

Bert - 7 fine, broke up play a lot. would have liked that volley to go in.

Rosicky - 7 I thought he was alright, could have shot once or twice but seemed to do a lot of things right.

Henry - 0 he cost us the game probably. needs to get match fit.

v. Persie - 5 decent, but honestly could have scored. wont shoot with his right foot ffs.

Walcott - 7 good. he's a great talent.

ade- didnt do enough to get a rating.

flamini - didnt do enough to get a rating.

Arsène - :(

Based on not just form as we were ****e today. Effort included and Henry lost out.

I would have been happier if we lost but showed effort. Hoyte shouldn't hog our LB position. Flamini does it better even though he'd be out of position. Speaks a world of things.

Eboue - 5, indecisive
Toure - 6, not too much to do, got forward a couple of times.
Djourou - 6, fair enough.
Hoyte - 5, poor first half, rediculous lunge for the penalty, better in the 2nd half

Hleb - 7, quite a few off-target passes, but generally did alright
Gilberto - 7, helped out defence quite a bit
Cesc - 7, average first half, looked up for it in the 2nd
Rosicky - 7, decent debut, should've scored

Henry - 5, obviously unfit and lacked leadership
RVP - 7, got into good positions, should've scored

Walcott - 6, looked decent, but not enough time for any impact
Flamini - 5
Adebayor - 5

Lehmann - 7 good if not decent. solid, but needs to calm down at times when opponents tries to provoke him. his outbust may affect team. good save from corradi and dickov

Eboue - 6 superb attacking threat, always our most dangerous player in terms of attacking abilities. passing needs to be better, he needs to look and pass instead of giving no look passes to opponents. defending solid as well.

Toure - 7 real leader. led by example in the closing stages.

Djourou - 6 outmuscled by corradi and dickov. proved his inexperience today by those irritating man c forwards but still did pretty well.

Hoyte - N.A how do i give a rating for this guy? forget it, his ratings from the first game 5 dropped till almost nothing. i can foresee the future of a negative rating for him if he continues like this.

Hleb - 6.5 yes he improved his passing and game. always drift into the middle. looks like he is very effective in the middle when he delivered superb balls for henry is the first half. more good shows coming from him.

Cesc - 7 another real leader. muscled the man city defence, marshalled out midfield, providing good balls for the forward line

Gilberto - 8 except for a lack of concentration in the closing stages, he did incredibly well. intercepting important balls. he is like our 5th defender at times. without him today, we would have conceded more than 1.

Rosicky - 7 first match and a good start. very nice energetic runs, but playmaking skills needs to be improved. still needs to gel well though

Henry - 4 a arsenal legend, not today though. to say he disappeared is not the right thing. but to say that he played alot and cost us alot is perfect. wasted uncountable chances, horrible passing, lacklustre jumps, runs and so on. give more of this performance and there goes your captain armband.

Rvp - 5 he cant adapt to this rough plays. his first touch is often poor and let defenders clear their lines. must stop being too indivualistic.

Subs

Flamini - N.A. didnt remember him touching a 2nd touch after clearing a ball

Ade - 4 based on his few mins he did nothing but pulled back the team. committed unnecessary fouls that spoilt our momentum. and furthermore keeps on turning here and there instead of passing the balls forward. crap shouldn't have sub him in

Walcott - 7.5 our only spark. sparkling gem. nuff said

Lehmann - 7
Made a few decent saves, but needs anger management, his antics will cost us one day. Awful kick at one stage.

Eboue - 6
Looked sharp, good defensivly and worked hard for the team. However he needs to work on his final ball, at times simply awful

Toure - 7
Immense, a Lion at the heart of the team, his determination is inspiring. Even though he had little to do

Djourou - 7
Big positive, looks a real talent, Senderos could find it difficult to get his place back

Hoyte - 4
Awful, simply not Arsenal material. Got beat too many times. Dont blame him for the defeat, our attacking cost us.

Hleb - 8
Most creative player, linked up well with Eboue and picked out some great passes. At times held the ball a bit too long, but its the drawback of a player always looking for the perfect pass.

Bert - 7.5
Did his job great today, worked hard all over the pitch, filling in for the missing Hoyte on a few occasions.

Cesc - 6.5
Not at his best, you can see he is a yard short of pace at the minute, the games of last year and the WC seem to be taking a tole.

Rosicky - 7
Will only get better, very good all round play, will take him time to gel properly with the team, when this happens we will reap the benefit

v. Persie - 7
Worked hard all day, his movement was excellent, got himself into some good positions, made space for Henry, link up play was good.

Henry - 1 (For playing whilst unfit)
A joke to be honest, didnt do a single thing right the whole game. Missed 3 easy chances and overhit a simple through ball. His touch was poor, has passing was bad, decision making worse, held the ball too long, didnt challenge and simply didnt contribute. Not his fault he is injured, but his overall attitude was poor.

Subs

Walcott - 7
Another bonus, quality young player, very direct and makes things happen.

Ade and Flamini didnt have long enough.

Arsenal Quotes

One of the things I discovered in Japan was from watching sumo wrestling. At the end you can never tell who has won the fight, and who has lost, because they do not show their emotion because it could embarrass the loser. It is unbelievable. That is why I try to teach my team politeness. It is only here in England that everybody pokes their tongue out when they win.
