Romelu Lukaku: Journeyman

Personal opinion is that Super Mario is a wow signing and will take pressure of Özil. Lukaku would be an excellent signing as well but he will bench Giroud and I cannot see Wenger wanting that.

Balptelli is on last chance saloon he cannot be regarded asa roaring success anywhere he has been and if he flopped here would rightly be considered damaged goods given the money involved in all of his transfers. If Wenger has gave to face talks with him Wenger will know what to do
Lukaku isn't good enough to bench Giroud, but I would love to see us sign him.

Lukaku would bench Giroud instantly. Wenger loves his youngsters and Lukaku isn't any worse than Giroud, but has massive upside whereas Giroud has peaked at mediocrity.

Should be more specific, did Wenger not say he wanted a striker to play alongside Giroud not replace him? If so Lukaku is to similar to play with so it would be one or the other starting whereas Sanchez Benzema etc can play anywhere along the front three

I'd love for us to sign this guy. The Specialist is likely too much of a factor here though. He hates Wenger, very unlikely to do anything to help us out. Selling to Man Utd was different, he's always sucked up to them. Only way I see it happening if is the bid is good enough that Roman can't ignore it.

Lukaku is a fantastic talent with great physical attributes, and he can finish well too, but he's not got the class that Giroud has got, that may come with experience, Giroud is great off the ball, something most players gain with experience...

Ps. Giroud is yet to peak.

Doesn't matter. Adebayor was no Henry and his movement was laughable at times, but he got by on his crazy physique in the same way that Lukaku does. Lukaku is only 20 and will become better than Drogba, you can quote me on that.

And how hasn't Giroud peaked? 2 full seasons now playing virtually every game at the age of 26/27, putting up Bendtner numbers and seemingly hasn't progressed at all for two seasons. He was average when he arrived and he's average now, 2 seasons and 80+ starts later.

TBF though Giroud did look fantastic at the start of this season before he was run into the ground. And not just against crap teams, look at his performances vs Napoli,vs Dortmund,vs Sp**s and you'll see that the guy can be decent, until the point where he gets fatigued from playing 50 games a season, for 90 minutes each time.

So in that sense, yes, we haven't seen his peak exactly. If we let him play fewer games he'll impress more.

He got several rests through the season with Bendtner and Sanogo stepping in. I don't buy the "ran into the ground" argument. He's 27 and should be able to play most of the games without much trouble, especially at his position.

Even average players have great spells. Look at Adam Johnson, Jermaine Defoe, Bendtner, Carrol, Gignac etc. You can always point to a handful of games where they've been fantastic, but you need consistensy and that's one of the things Giroud severaly lacks. Giroud occasionally does something fantastic, whether it be a great finish or pass, but it always comes after several games of being sub-par.

His fantastic bit of skill against us ie. doesn't make up for the countless missed chances and pathetic play with the ball at his feet throughout the season.

Not a big fan of Lukaku, but he's quick and can have an impact on big games unlike Giroud, Remy, Mandzukic etc. Giroud is not mediocre though and against the majority of sides he'd do better than Lukaku for us.

Giroud's style is very good for players like Ramsey and Walcott. You could argue they'd score less next to someone like Lukaku who's not as good playing back to goal.

Besides all the great things about Romelu that are already mentioned, Lukaku is also a very hard worker, he hates going to clubs and seems like a great guy and is always very down to earth.

The opposite of 'super' Mario.

We'll score more goals with Lukaku than with Giroud. Ok, you wouldn't have a lay-off from Lukaku himself. But Lukaku is just like Giroud able (and even better that him) to keep central defenders occupied with his strength so space is free for Walcott / Rambo to run into.

Lukaku can also run into the space himself and muscle out the defender (Giroud never) or pass back to Özil, Arteta, Rambo or Cazorla would could make the brilliant throughball to Walcott/Rambo/Sanchez.

In short.
Strikers make goals.
Midfielders make assists.

Nothing Wrong With Me
We always thought it would be unlikely Moureen would let him come to us.

If they won't let even Ba to Arsenal, forget Lukaku ... Mourinho and Wenger ain't friends.. haha.

We can splash big money for someone like Cavani or Falcao... or just go for Vela, or the 2 marios..

Weak link, since we're not named explicity, but I'm just going to assume we're among the host of interested PL clubs.

<a class="postlink" href="http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/12691/9346224/transfer-news-wolfsburg-keen-on-signing-romelu-lukaku-if-the-price-is-right" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www1.skysports.com/football/news ... e-is-right</a>

Allofs has previously confirmed the Bundesliga side’s [Wolfsburg] interest in a move for Lukaku as they chase a new striker, but he knows that they may face stern competition to secure his services with a host of Premier League clubs, Juventus and Atletico among those also reported to be keen.

"If the player is getting cheaper, maybe this affair is picking up pace. But even then we won’t be the only club chasing the player’s signature," he told kicker-Sportmagazin.

"Actually we are looking at top-class strikers and we do not have any pressure. We are patiently waiting for the right moment.

"There will be some movement in all of this after FIFA World Cup tournament."

Chelsea will want to sell him abroad, but we should be able to outbid the clubs metioned here. If only Mourinho wasn't such a ****..

Whether we should be or not, we're clearly not in for him. If we were, we would have used the fabregas clause as leverage.

Jose will sell him abroad or loan him again.
