Doesn't look anywhere near as good without Santi next to him. Sometimes it's all about how well you play with your teammates. Same reason Per and Kos are good together despite their own flaws.

With Ramsey in there he is being asked to pass more and that's not his game. If he's going to play, we need a true passer in there. That Ramsey/Coq partnership is barely better than Ramsey/Flamini

You just hit the nail on the head . Coq is being asked to do more than his job just like Flamini had to start passing from deep with Ramsey there .

But he doesn't do that?

He had like 30 passes, that's nothing. Gabriel had 89, Kos 72, Ramsey 62.

He could at least try to offer himself as a passing option, but he just stands there and does nothing to help us forward.

But that's it, with Santi he is able to play exactly like that and it works. With Ramsey, Coq needs to be doing more passing due to how Ramsey is playing, but he doesn't because that's not his game. So we left with a need not being filled in the team.

I mean he's also just not playing that well, but the pairing is poor.

I still don't think it works with Santi who is ideally a more advanced player although he's performed credibly in a deeper role. Our midfield was still not able to control games even with both of them playing.

We haven't got the midfield right since Arteta played alongside Ramsey and even then we didn't quite have the defensive balance.

He's been poor since he returned from injury but he works better with Santi or a prime Arteta type. With someone good in possession next to him he actually improves his own distribution. I remember he had one awful passing game pre injury and in the next game he went up a level. Excuses have been made for Ramsey, but Coq now runs around aimlessly and brainlessly because there's no structure or partner in MF. I'd play him with Elneny and let him do the running with Coq more static and tactical. We can't be any worse than we have been surely.

I thought Coquelin didn't have a bad game and did his job; making a high amount of tackles and inceptions.

Are we going to bank on that Cazorla stays fit for next 100 year so every player in the team can function properly?
And even if Cazorla is fit, he can only function in midfield next to Coquelin. The balance in the team is so ****ing fragile. We are so dependent on individual players making it all work rather than the system, it's not even funny anymore.

So are we going to ask for every player to be sold after a few bad games ffs.

Henry and Pires would never of had Arsenal careers with this thinking.

He wasnt that bad, but he was annoyingly complacent with his positioning today. Does not look as good next to Ramsey.

I did say last summer that as good as Coq was for us, we needed a player with more control on the ball, off of it and tactically speaking - while being hopeful he would potentially evolve.

Not much has changed. We still need a controller in midfield.

Ideally Coquelin would be a tactical option/competition, like a Ramires at Chelsea or Milner when he was at City. Kinda thought the need for him last season stemmed more from Wenger's tactics as most top European sides wouldn't rely on a destroyer covering so many areas but Arsenal serve up something totally different to most teams.

Also, was never a fan of the Santi/Coq partnership either tbh. Thought it was very soft away from home especially.

Love how all the honeymoon periods for our players are ending.

Said it at the end of last season, he's an excellent ball-winner and that's that. You could maybe carry him in a three man midfield but you'll be lucky to win big titles with him as one your midfield two.

Playing a midfield two requires multi-faceted midfielders. Coq was never the plan long term, Wenger sent him to the scrap heap let's not forget.

Cazorla-Coq:
+ Allows us to play from the back and counter-attack.
- Lacks athleticism
- Lacks height
- Lacks midfield control

Ramsey-Coq:
+ Good mobility in midfield
+ Both players can put a tackle in
- Poor distribution
- Counter-attacks are a thing of the past
- Poor technique

The state of us. Cazorla and Coqeulin is clearly the best partnership we have but it's easy to forget that anyone with a decent pair of legs could overrun us. We also couldn't control games as Coquelin is quite useless when we have the ball.

Lack of a defined system hurts us, one player gets injured and there's no one else who can do a similar job. The whole-team changes drastically, usually for the worst.

Whatever you think of Cazorla he is our best CM and that partnership with Coq and Ramsey right works . Who else do we play in there this season Ramsey ? give me a break ,we look slow and ponderous with him on the ball .

What do you mean Trilly ?we controlled plenty of games this season and last with that partnership . Coq is not worse than Ramsey in posession I know that .
