Not a lot can be added to what's already been said really - a pretty great performance all-round really, from front to back.

Even the first two Liverpool goals were pretty great (the first the result of some superb movement by Fowler, the second a fantastic volley)...

Anyone else a little disappointed Theo didn't get to take the penalty though? Would have loved him to get his first...

i was in transit to the united states and so i missed the goal. once i landed in NYC, i immediately called a friend for the score and i almost **** myself when he said it was 5-2 and that the beast had hit a hattrick. and then he called back to say the beast had 4 and we'd won 6-3 and i went crazy in the middle of a busy terminal at JFK international airport. i am a big fan of the beast and am joyous about his play yesterday. lets hope this is a new beginning for him and he goes on to hammer in many goals for Arsenal. what we have done to liverpool in the last few days is amazing and monumental. we have ended their season, at least in terms of trophies (they will not win the CL) in 3 days and we did it at Anfield, a notoriously difficult place to play away. and we did it with goals and verve and YOUTH.

I just finished reading Hornby's "Fever Pitch" for the second time and i find it remarkable that while i was reading his segment about truly amazing matches, one was going on in liverpool. and we didnt even need henry to do something amazing as he always seems to do against the pool. well done Arsenal.

The beauty of it is, the Carling Cup is the only time a lot of Arsenal fans get to see Arsenal, as it's generally easier to get tickets. This means, for a lot of people, the first time they'll ever visit the Emirates Stadium will be a North London derby cup semi-final (victory) - should be a great memory for a lot of people

may god bless us. this might actually be our carling cup year after so long. and i want wenger not only to win Sp**s, but thrash them like today. i know i am greedy lol

few hours passed and i am still amazed. i missed the first half and when i on the tv at 4.45 am the commentator said 4-1. i was so worried it was to liverpool. but to my relief and surprised baptista scored twice with us leading 4-1. amazing stuffs by our kids. i will never forget this.

True but even getting tickets at the emirates for premiership, CL games has become so much easier. with red membership alone it is possible to get tickets for all games easily except Tottenham and United so far - and Chelsea to come i would imagine.

As extremely happy as I am, I'm still trying to contain myself.

I'm telling myself "Don't get too cocky, you fool". It's only the Carling Cup.

Baptista did very well and I hope he does the same in the league. So did Aliadiere.

The lads did well. Great cup games. But there is still much to do in the League where we're blowing hot and cold a bit.

I'd rather not see performances like Shef Utd (a) & West Ham (a) - which rates as my top 2 horrible games.

First up, Blackburn. And then, there's Man Utd and Sp**s to face in the league.

And let's not forget that Liverpool will be out for revenge in the League game in March.

soccernet is having a dig at liverpool too.

SPARE A THOUGHT: For the man from Liverpool's official website, pondering the Man of the Match when Messrs Aliadiere, Baptista, Fabregas and Toure were ineligible. It's safe to say he didn't plump for Jerzy Dudek.

this is just humourous

The ages of our starting midfielders were 18,19,19 and 17 and we still managed to beat Liverpool 6-3.What other team in the world would be able to do that ?

One thing that impressed me about Baptista and I've pointed it out before is how aggressive his attacking runs are. His second goal was proof of that, pass to Aliadere and straight away he was busting his lung to get himself into a goal scoring position. How many times watching Arsenal have you seen a ball fly across the 6 yard box and the nearest player is 15 yards back waiting for a cut back. I've always felt we have at least 10-15 league goals short due to us not having a real poacher or someone who doesn't always score those lovely goals that we specialise in. Wenger talked about him having those runs in his locker and how he was one of those players who always seems to be in the right position at the right time and he has that killer instinct infront of goal. He goes for the kill and his runs show that as well, too many of our players after passing hang around or move to the side to get the ball back but I like how he was getting right into the box because we just don't players that do that enough. He always has goal scoring intentions and I love about him.

I think his touch looked well rusty still but his overall play was much better and I felt he was linking up much better with the players around him. He needed a game like this to kick start his arsenal career and saw his interview and his English is coming along very nice as well. If we can get this guy to work in our system he will score a lot of goals for us, possibly be up there with Henry as he is a goal scorer which is very different to what we have right now.
Good post.

I would also mention this match has demonstrated why Baptista is a striker, and not a midfielder.

Great post, and I would also like to add that he isn't a left winger either.

I did think that although completely out of position, Denilson did well again. Nothing spectacular, but good touches, and a sense that he wasn't going to pull out of challenges.

P.S I think Cesc has shown Gerrard who's best!

I am just hope and pray that both sets of support get big allocations. Says on the Sp**s site due to safety concerns etc we may only get the usual allocation instead of 5/6,000. If that happens, which it probably will I will be gutted.

But I just cannot wait for these two games now, I have wanted this to happen for years. 1987 all over again.

Brilliant game last night, gutted I didnt go. What a genius Wenger is. Anyone got any links to highlights?

I am glad our first leg is on the 24th,that is after we play Manchester United. We get one whole week then, without any distractions to concentrate solely on Manchester United. The biggest came of our season so far.We will know for sure how far we have come in 6 months.

So, the question is, who will win the new talent award for this seasons Carling Cup? Last year it was Lupoli, the year before it was Aliadiere.....(Can anyone spot the trend) I'm not too sure it will be an Arsenal player, as Ali isn't new any more and he has been probably the best of Arsenal so far. As far as Arsenal are concerned, it's out of Traore, Walcott, Denilson, Song (or did he play last season?), and Djourou (may have played last year).
