Park Chu-Young (Out)

Wenger took a punt on Park and it didn't work out, don't think the Park situation is as ''bizarre'' as many have been making out.

Maybe there was a clause where we would have had to pay more if Park played certain amount of games etc. Or he could have been dog **** in training.

Yeah, I see what you mean. But whats bizarre about it for me is that he was never really given a run in the first team. I know he came for a low fee, but hell, Chamakh came for free and how many goalless/dismal performances did we have to see from him before Wenger lost faith?

Maybe he's not a Wenger signing? A Gazidis signing aimed at boosting revenues which failed spectacularly. That's my theory....

Say what you want about Bischoff, I hear he's just tearing up the German third division.

I also find it very strange that he was not given any amount of time whatsoever. He couldn't be any worse than Chamakh, correct ? :D

His only appearance against Bolton in CC was solid and he scored a well taken goal

He also played few minutes against AC Milan (which I don't think he ever touched the ball that night).

But as others have agreed, he must have done something in training or he had some sort of appearance clause in his contract which prevented Wenger to select him, so to keep finances in check.

It is similar to how Senderos was frozen from the team after coming back from Milan loan. He was always ready and fit and expect playing a single game in CC against Liverpool (in which Merida scored a cracker) he didn't play another game that year. He then went on loan to Everton and eventually got sold to Fulham.

Park was definitely a strange signing, I hope to find out the details one day.

On the subject of bizarre signings, I remember we bought Clive Alen and sold him before he even played a proper game. I think he only ever played pre-season games and was sold.

Most * transfer move in Wenger's reign?

2nd most, I'd say. Remember Amaury Bischoff? And what about he who must not be named?

Silvestre was **** but at least Wenger played him a bit.

Bischoff was a low risk roll of the dice.

Park is definitely the biggest **** up. He cost us a few million, had a pretty big wage packet and never even got a chance at the club. Bizarre.

I remember that. It was our first 1m signing, and we swapped him for the great Kenny Sansom.

I didnt remember who came in, obviously it was a good piece of business, Sansom was brilliant.

supposedly we signed allen just so we could get samson, as the two other clubs couldnt be seen to deal with each other in transfers. we worked as a go between, so palace and qpr fans wouldnt get annoyed at their clubs for dealing with rivals.

Looks like we're set to release him. One of the strangest signings in recent memory.

I heard Wenger paid more than his worth to help Monaco out during their time of financial crisis. Wouldn't surprise me if true.

Oh yeah, the man that has been so frugal and careful with Arsenal's finances over the last 8 years, sacrificing his managerial record for the good of this club, offered Monaco over the odds for a player that he never intended to use.

He of course did this to assist Monaco during their financial crisis, a team that refused to let him leave to speak to Bayern Munich and then wasted no time in sacking him very early into the next season.

I don't buy that at all.

From the same site. One of the weirdest signings ever under Wenger by quite a distance no?

Arsenal Quotes

When we won the league at Tottenham, they came back 2-2 in the last-minute of the game, and they're celebrating - because they're happy to draw against us, obviously. And I remember saying to Mauricio Tarricco who injured himself celebrating in front of me: "Do you realise we only need a point to be Champions?" And he was utterly shocked. So I said "Yes. Now watch as we're going to celebrate on your pitch. Bye bye!"
